Financial details of the purchase have not been revealed.

Legacy Esports has been competing for almost a decade in Oceania. The team has won two OPL championships, which was League of Legends’ premier OCE competition prior to the LCO. Last year, the team finished seventh in the LCO.

Kanga Esports’ Founder and Managing Director, Hayden Shiels, commented: “We are really excited about this opportunity. Kanga is always looking for ways to support the ANZ Esports ecosystem and continue to expand. Acquiring Legacy and entering League of Legends makes perfect sense for our next step.”

The former owners of Legacy Esports, the Adelaide Football Club (Adelaide Crows), were one of the first mainstream Australian sporting clubs to invest in esports. Kanga Esports has noted in a release that the organisation plans to make ‘big moves’ in the upcoming months and that the acquisition of Legacy Esports is not the only announcement planned.

Bradley Da Silva, COO of Kanga Esports, added: “We’ve got a lot more exciting news for Kanga fans in the lead up to 2022 which will further highlight the strong recovery of the esports market here in Oceania.”

Esports Insider says: Legacy Esports is one of the oldest and most well-known names in the ANZ region, and its new owners will surely take advantage of that moving forward. It’s interesting to see the Adelaide Crows decide to sell its esports team, effectively ending its esports efforts, by stating that “the club’s priorities have changed”.
