PGL Antwerp 2022 will be the fourth Major organised by the bucharest-based company. In addition, PGL will be supported by Belgian esports production company META for the event.

In a release, PGL citied that Belgium was the first option for this Major because of the country’s geographical location. The company also announced that spectators will be able to attend the playoff stage, but PGL is ‘ready to adapt plans to ensure the safety of everyone involved’.

Bart De Wever, Mayor of Antwerp, commented: “We are very excited to see this top-tier esports championship happening in Antwerp. The CS:GO Majors have millions of viewers, and tens of thousands of fans will visit our city to attend the matches. It is also the first time this tournament will take place in Belgium or the Netherlands. It puts Antwerp on the map internationally as a hot spot for esports, an immensely interesting and fast-developing sector.”

PGL has announced that the tickets for the tournament will be available soon. It is also important to note that the event’s prize pool of $1m is down from 2021’s Stockholm Major, which featured a prize pool of $2m.

Esports Insider says: PGL is set to host its second Major in less than a year, which is a big achievement for the company. It’s also good to see that the tournament will be played in Belgium for the first time ever. Hopfully, the production problems that plagued the Stockholm Major do not return this time around.
