French video game developer and publisher Ubisoft has consolidated its esports departments into a single global team.
The move comes as the company looks to ‘better shape the future of esports and competitive gaming’.

The newly formed Esports and Competitive Gaming Team will take control of all Ubisoft esports circuits, ranging from Brawlhalla to the Rainbow Six Pro League, which features a total of 60 teams competing across four regions.
François-Xavier Deniele, Senior Director of Esports and Competitive Gaming at Ubisoft, spoke on the reorganisation in a release: “By consolidating our team into a single, global organisation, we can establish a clear direction for all our regional activities, taking into account regional and local specificities; strengthen the relationship between fans and players; and collaborate with more teams at Ubisoft in the most efficient way possible.
“Our hope is that this decision will increase our agility and streamline our decision-making processes to better respond to shifts in our industry, and more specifically to what our audience wants in terms of competitive products, content, and how and where they want to consume it.”
2021 was a turbulent year for Ubisoft. While the company managed to secure a partnership renewal with online payment processor PayPal and new deals with the likes of LetsPlay.Live, the COVID-19 pandemic saw the postponement of the Six Invitational before it gained authorisation from the French government to host the event in Paris.

“The intensity of the past two years also served as a magnifying glass, and allowed us to accurately assess all our strengths and improvements, as well as the flaws and qualities of our processes and internal structure.” Added Deniele.
“It helped us identify what we needed to adjust in order to tackle our upcoming challenges and shape a bright future for esports and competitive gaming at Ubisoft.”
