Plans for Gfinity Australia were announced back in August as part of a joint venture with London based Gfinity and IKON Media & Entertainment. Remond will join the company in the new year in February after more than four years with Australian cricket team the Sydney Sixers.

He will finish the current Big Bash League season before starting with the new project.

Remond also runs his own sales and marketing consultancy and has worked with brands such as Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Schweppes.

Ciaran Davis, HT&E CEO and Managing Director, said of Remond’s appointment: “His extensive corporate and marketing expertise, as well as his involvement in the evolution of the Big Bash League from its early infancy and the successful commercialisation of that content, will be invaluable as we roll out the esports business and establish this inaugural city-based franchise league in Australia.”

Remond added: “The role of Chief Executive of Gfinity Australia provides a unique opportunity to be part of the rapidly growing eSports sector in Australia and drive growth for HT&E which has a powerful platform to be leveraged with its radio, outdoor and digital assets.”

The Challenger and Elite Series that have formed the bulk of Gfinity’s focus in London will be replicated over in Australia, though there will be differences. The Australian Elite Series will see city-based pro franchise teams battle it out on a weekly basis, with each event broadcast live both online and ‘across other TV and media platforms’.

Esports Insider says: An appointment with someone from a strong sporting and brand background then with Sydney Sixers Dominic Remond confirmed as the man to lead the Gfinity Australia project. We don’t typically hear much in the way of esports news from down under so we anticipate far more in 2018 when this league gets underway.

ESI Ranking System
We’ve created a ranking system to help you quickly know how good each gambling platform is. As gamblers ourselves, we know which factors matter most to you, so we follow a best-in-class methodology to test each one with no stone unturned. Once done, we then rank each platform based on the following tiers:
  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
  • S-Tier Reserved for elite operators only. These go well beyond the norm with lucrative bonuses, rewarding promotions, lightning-fast payouts, and a flawless experience overall.
