It’s been a long wait for confirmation, but we now officially know that Battlefield 6 will feature a Battle Royale mode. There’s a lot of unofficial information out there, though, so ahead of BF6’s release date, we’ve sorted through what is and isn’t confirmed to bring you the latest.
Below, we’ll look at exactly what’s been said and released by EA, and also revisit the leaks and rumours with possible futures. We’ve sifted through the information about the Battlefield 6 BR map, weapons, and vehicles, and we’ll look at that “deadliest ring in BR” quote. So for the latest on BF6 BR, read on!
BF6 Battle Royale latest news
On September 10, EA’s Battlefield mini-site posted a long and fairly useful post about “Battle Royale Testing”. As far as we’re aware, this was the first time that EA had officially confirmed the title’s most competitive mode to exist. Yes, we saw a teaser video at the tail end of the BF6 multiplayer reveal, but this information was only a hint.
EA’s blog post confirms two important things: that the Battle Royale is coming and that the mode has entered testing.
“This week we begin testing a new addition to our Battlefield universe, a Battle Royale built on Battlefield’s unique DNA. The information and feedback from players in Battlefield Labs will be incredibly valuable in helping to refine and deliver this experience.”
That the mode is being tested in Battlefield Labs suggests a ‘closed beta’ scenario, with Battlefield devs watching the action closely to see how it unfolds. Clearly, this stage of testing is crucial, particularly if the mode doesn’t get an open beta, as the elements below will need to be fine-tuned. Is there a BF6 BR release date? Not yet.
BF6 BR mode details
Map and environment
There have been rumours about the BF6 BR map since at least July, and no specifics have been confirmed. But we do now know that the destructive map will be “epic” and built for the BR experience. The map’s “diverse array of tactical Points of Interest” offers “distinct layouts” and “unique gameplay opportunities”. Could the BF6 BR map leaks be right, then?
Perhaps, but one thing that seems certain is the lethality of Battlefield 6’s ‘ring’, which is being called, “The deadliest ring in BR”. The community update states the ring will “instantly kill” players on contact. That means no slipping inside or outside the zone, like with Warzone. EA is saying testers should expect “urgent warnings” and a fast-paced match.
Weapons and classes
Squad play and VOIP will be crucial to the BF BR experience. Players choose a class they stick with, including two default gadgets. XP is earned by killing players/squads or completing in-map ‘missions’. Levelling up will allow access to new class traits, impacting class abilities: “One example would be the Assault class being faster in equipping an armor plate.”
In terms of loot, five classes of weapons exist in testing, all found in the map alongside attachments. These are: “throwables (Ex. Frag Grenades), gadgets (Ex. RPGs), Strike Packages (Ex. Air Strike), armor, upgrade kits, and custom drops of favorited [sic] weapons”. Loot crates, class crates, armoured trucks, mission rewards, and fallen enemies offer items.
Vehicles and tactics
Vehicles will very likely be present in Battlefield 6’s BR mode. And it will likely be more than the golf cart we see crashing into a neighbourhood pool in the teaser video. Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale labs test vehicles include ‘common’ options (we suppose the golf cart fits this category). Perhaps this also includes cars, vans, jeeps, or more civilian options.
However, also in the test are “powerful armored vehicles”. These may include tanks/APCs, but no specifics were confirmed in the community update post. The post does mention that “more ways for players to traverse the map early on” and “interesting combined arms action” are both key to the Battle Royale test. So, early and later game vehicles seem possible.
BF6 BR mode rumours & leaks
Again, all of the above was intended as a community update and for Battlefield Labs players to know what to expect. However, there have been some leaks since the post. One gameplay leak, posted to X by ‘bobnetworkuk’, shows a Battle Royale player landing from deployment before entering action. This footage backs a now-removed video leak of players skydiving after a Chinook helicopter deployment.
A further leak has appeared since the posting of the community update, with a rumoured Battlefield 6 Battle Royale release date. According to leaker ModernWarzone, the game mode will arrive on October 28. That’s 18 days after the main release of Battlefield 6, if it proves to be true. Of course, given the testing schedule for the BR mode, a later release does make sense.
Conclusion
While the game mode will be open to tweaks and changes depending on feedback and findings from Battlefield Labs, a BF6 Battle Royale mode is coming. Not only that, it appears it will incorporate key elements of Battlefield 6: tactical destruction, class play, vehicles, weapon loadouts, and attachments.
How it combines these elements into the Battle Royale format remains to be seen. With missions, crates, armoured vehicles, and a deadly closing ring, things feel like they’re heating up, if you can excuse the pun. We can’t wait to see what the final mode looks like.
