TL;DR
- In February 2024, Epic Games and the Walt Disney Company revealed a deal that would see the companies work together to broaden the gaming and entertainment reach of the Disney brand.
- Disney invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games, signalling a clear statement of intent.
- While there are plenty of possibilities, there will be restrictions to protect the Disney characters that appeal to the younger end of the brand’s autdience.
- The characters chosen will be judged on an individual basis, but it’s fair to say players aren’t going to see Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck running around mowing down players with firearms in Fortnite anytime soon.
Back in February 2024, Epic Games and the Walt Disney Company revealed a collaborative deal that would see the two companies work together to broaden the gaming and entertainment reach of the Disney brand. One particularly entertaining element of this deal is the idea of well-known characters from Disney’s ever expanding catalogue of franchises becoming playable as skins in Fortnite.
Disney went as far as to invest $1.5 billion in Epic Games, making it clear that the collaboration is serious business for both parties. Various characters under the Disney brand are now a part of Fortnite. But which Disney Fortnite skins are currently available, and what new Disney Fortnite skins could we see in the future?
Disney and Fortnite skins
There are plenty of Disney Fortnite skins currently available at the time of writing (June 2025), but it’s important to categorise these skins in terms of the brands that they fall under. The current Disney-owned properties can be found in Fortnite via skins for the player:
- Walt Disney Animation.
- Walt Disney Pictures.
- Pixar.
- Marvel.
- Lucasfilm.
- 20th Century Studios.
We’re only going to be looking at the Disney animation, Disney pictures and Pixar skins currently available in Fortnite, as some of the other skins, such as certain Star Wars and Marvel ones, were available before the deal between Epic Games and Disney was made. Keep in mind that we aren’t going to include LEGO variants.
Walt Disney Animation and Walt Disney Pictures
There are three Disney villain skins currently available in Fortnite. At the time of writing, these are the only skins based on Disney animated characters. There was also a skin for Baymax from Big Hero Six, but that was only available via the Chapter 6 Season 1 battle pass.
There are also skins for Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Sally and Jack are Tim Burton creations, though Disney produced and distributed the film.
| Character Skin | Disney Property | Cost in V-Bucks |
|---|---|---|
| Captain Hook | Peter Pan | 2,000 |
| Cruella de Vil | 101 Dalmatians | 1,500 |
| Maleficent | Sleeping Beauty | 1,800 |
| Hero Baymax | Big Hero Six | Chapter 6 Season 1 Battle Pass only |
| Jack Skellington | The Nightmare Before Christmas | 1,500 |
| Sally | The Nightmare Before Christmas | 1,500 |
| Captain Barbossa | Pirates of the Caribbean | 1,500 |
| Cursed Jack Sparrow | Pirates of the Caribbean | 2,000 |
| Davy Jones | Pirates of the Caribbean | 3,400 (as part of the Pirates of the Caribbean bundle) |
| Elizabeth Swann | Pirates of the Caribbean | 1,600 |
| Jack Sparrow | Pirates of the Caribbean | 2,000 |
Pixar
There are only three Disney Fortnite skins available for Pixar characters at the time of writing. These skins all come from The Incredibles film series.
| Character Skin | Pixar Property | Cost in V-Bucks |
|---|---|---|
| Frozone | The Incredibles | 1,800 |
| Mr. Incredible | The Incredibles | 1,500 |
| Mrs. Incredible | The Incredibles | 1,500 |
Future possibilities
There are plenty of possibilities when it comes to what Disney Fortnite skins could be added in the future, but there are restrictions that will be put in place when it comes to certain characters. Players aren’t going to see Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck running around mowing down players with firearms in Fortnite anytime soon.
The characters that will be chosen to enter the world of Fortnite will be judged on an individual basis, as Disney characters that are more family-friendly and rated E for everyone will not suit the running and gunning nature of Fortnite. This was confirmed by Saxs Persson, the EVP of Epic Games, during an interview with The Verge. In the interview, Persson said the following:
“Not every outfit will be able to do everything… Brands should be able to enforce the brand guidelines to the degree that they’re comfortable with that brand being associated with particular ratings… Some IPs are not teen IPs or mature IPs. They are E for everyone IPs”
The choice of Disney characters added to Fortnite so far makes a lot of sense from this perspective. The Incredibles is a series that is recommended for children aged 13 and over, and not thought to be suitable for kids younger than 8. This makes the characters the perfect fit for the Fortnite demographic, hence why they are allowed to wield guns.
The same can be said for the Disney villains who are included. Maleficent, Captain Hook and Cruella de Vil come from films that are kid-friendly, but they themselves are the villains from these movies and are part of the scarier, more disturbing scenes.
These guidelines will rule out certain characters, but at the moment, it’s unclear as to who will get a pass and who won’t be coming to Fortnite. For example, some of the princess movies, such as Moana and Brave, are PG, meaning that parental guidance is suggested. Does that mean that players will be able to shoot up enemies as Moana or Merida? Probably not. For now, we’ll just have to wait until we get more updates from Epic Games or Disney regarding the characters that will appear as skins.
When it comes to speculating on what characters might appear, it’s always a good idea to look at Disney’s upcoming movies or television shows. Some upcoming projects include Zootopia 2 – releasing in November 2025, Toy Story 5 – in June 2026, and the live-action Moana film, also in 2026. There is a chance that characters from these franchises could appear in Fortnite via crossover events, but for now, it’s still just speculation.
Community reactions
Since the release of the Epic Games and Disney collaboration, there have been plenty of opinions from the Fortnite community. While some have been disheartened by Disney’s involvement, due to their position as the largest entertainment company in the world, others have been positive, or at least neutral about the collaboration.
Reddit user International-Pass22 makes some interesting speculation about the Disney characters and guns situations, saying: “I could see them adding a non-violent mode in the future for the core Disney characters.”
On the same Reddit thread, thegoatfeederDVC also thinks a new game mode could be possible: “I’m a weirdo that would love to see Mickey and co on the island. But there’s no chance those characters are going to be armed with weapons…it’s going to be boxed off in other modes would be my guess.”
This could be the perfect way to navigate the issue of Disney characters wielding weapons, although a completely new mode without violence would be a risky inclusion for Epic.
When it comes to community speculation on what characters could be included as skins, Deep_Yam_5365 states in the same thread that they believe that skins will only be released for more recent Disney characters: “The only characters I can see in Fortnite are the Disney princesses that came out recently. Characters like Rapunzel, Anna, Elsa, Moana, and others will no doubt be brought in.”
Conclusion
Currently, the only Disney characters (not including Marvel, Star Wars and 20th Century Fox characters) included in Fortnite are those from PG movies or Disney villains. This is due to the issue surrounding which characters are allowed to wield weapons, which makes it particularly difficult to tell which characters will enter Fortnite. This is understandable, as Disney has a kid-friendly brand image to maintain.
While it’s unlikely that we will see classic Disney characters in battle royale, there is a chance that new game modes could be created to allow players to use Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and other members of the core Disney cast as Fortnite skins.
