Marvel Rivals has been on a roll since its December 2024 debut, but one of the big questions people ask is if the game is crossplay between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. The team-based superhero free-to-play shooter has been carving its own niche in 2025, with plenty of season packs that have brought in new characters and modes to the delight of players.
But developers are acknowledging that friends and family members own different systems with the same game, meaning it could be difficult to play with one another. It’s something that Fortnite, released in 2017 by Epic Games, has been leading the way with. But in Marvel Rivals’ case, it’s a bit murky at present. With this in mind, we’re going to explain just how crossplay works in the title and if cross-progression is part of the package.
Is Marvel Rivals crossplay?
Marvel Rivals crossplay is fully supported across gamers on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC for its casual modes; however, ranked crossplay support is currently limited to PlayStation and Xbox, with PC being isolated. This is due to the vast differences in control method (and therefore precision) afforded by going from a controller to a keyboard and mouse, with PC gamers (debatably) having a leg up over those on Xbox and PlayStation users at a higher level.
Crossplay is supported in various modes, such as Quick Match, Conquest, Custom Game, and Practice. This means that no matter if you own Marvel Rivals on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC, you’ll be able to play with others on their respective consoles or PCs as well.

Supported Marvel Rivals platforms
Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
While you can play the game on an Apple Mac via apps like Crossover and Parallels Desktop, you may experience low frame rates due to the processing power your Mac needs to run a game within Windows, within one of these apps.
But for those who own a Nintendo Switch 2, we have bad news. NetEase is yet to get a developer kit from Nintendo in order to port Marvel Rivals to the newest console. So you may have to look at another console or PC for your Marvel fix for now.
Full Marvel Rivals crossplay details & player count
As mentioned above, Marvel Rivals crossplay is fully supported across all the platforms it’s available on, in modes like Quick Match, Conquest, Custom Game, and Practice, with no issues. The one restriction is for ranked play modes on PC against console players, due to concerns about the control methods used.
According to SteamDB, Marvel Rivals PC players account for daily averages of around 70,000 people, with the usual 24-hour peak currently hovering around the 96,000 player mark.
The game peaked in January 2025, with 644,269 active players.. Those numbers may not sound like much on their own; however, Marvel Rivals is consistently one of the most-played games on Steam, confidently ranking in the top 10 among esports greats like CS2, Dota 2, and Apex Legends.
While the Marvel Rivals player counts for Xbox and PlayStation platforms are harder to lock down, it was confirmed that the game had been downloaded more than 20 million times shortly after its 2024 launch.
The company is yet to announce newer figures; however, we can gauge based on these figures that Xbox and PlayStation make up the remaining 19,355,731 downloads, when excluding Steam’s confirmed all-time peak. That means there are a lot of people to play with, so you shouldn’t struggle to find a game anytime soon.
Does Marvel Rivals have cross-progression?
Marvel Rivals cross-progression is not available, meaning you can’t take your progress from PC, Xbox Series X/S, or PS5 to another console or PC.
That means that all of your unlocks and achievements made on Xbox will not carry over to PlayStation or PC, so we recommend sticking to one system instead of switching between multiple (if you’re lucky enough to own multiple game consoles or a respectable gaming PC).
NetEase Games is well aware that its player base has been demanding Marvel Rivals cross-progression for some time, but it has yet to implement it. Shortly after the title’s release late last year, the game’s creative director, Guangyun Chen, explained how: “Cross-progression involves a lot of platform-specific rules” and that the team is “still looking at it and how to solve it”, assuring players that: “once we’ve figured it out, we’ll be sharing to everyone and players will be the first to know” (via Dot Esports).
Since then, there has been no official timeline of when cross-progression will be added, other than the promise that it could happen at some point soon. We’re hopeful that it could be included in 2026, but this is purely speculation on our part.

How to disable Marvel Rivals crossplay
It’s a simple process to disable Marvel Rivals crossplay if you’d rather stay on the same platform with other players. For PlayStation 5, you need to head into the settings menu and then find the “Social” tab from the horizontal menu (or scroll down the drop-down list), where “Cross-Platform” will be on a dedicated toggle switch. You can simply disable (or enable) it with one button press.
To note, crossplay is on by default on PC, so you can’t turn it off when playing versions bought on the Steam or Epic Games storefronts, respectively. The only workaround is to play ranked modes, where you’ll be strictly paired with other PC players.
The game states how “..this option affects your team invites and requests”, as well as how “..if it’s not aligned, players can’t join forces”. Essentially, Marvel Rivals is telling you to keep crossplay enabled for however long you may play it for.
If you’re playing on Xbox Series X/S, it’s not that simple. Instead, the game prompts you to go to the console’s Account settings, open the “Privacy & Online Safety” tab, followed by “Xbox Privacy”. Then, “View Details and Customize”, and then “Communication & Multiplayer” to ‘Block’ the option of being able to “join cross-network play”.
Hopefully, this process can be smoothed out in a future update, instead of disabling crossplay for all your Xbox games.
Conclusion
There’s good news and bad news when it comes to crossplay. Yes, Marvel Rivals fully supports crossplay in its casual game modes between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC players.
But when it comes to cross-progression, meaning carrying on your progress on another device, that’s currently not possible. However, NetEase has confirmed that it’s working on it, but with no tentative release date as yet.
For now, though, if you have friends and family enjoying Marvel Rivals on their respective consoles or PC, you can at least join in on the fun with them and become your own Marvel superhero team for an evening or two.
