TL;DR

  • We’ve ranked all VALORANT characters from S-tier to D-tier across every role, including duelists, controllers, sentinels, and initiators.
  • The tier list is updated for Season 2026 and is relevant for both ranked and pro play.
  • The best agents for the current act are Clove, Jett, Sage, Phoenix, and Reyna.
  • When picking an agent, consider multiple factors such as the map, team composition, personal comfort, and more.
  • Always take duels with confidence and use map knowledge when planning strategies.

VALORANT has come a long way as both a tactical shooter and a leading esports title. Starting with just 11 agents, its roster has expanded to 28 characters and counting.

Each agent comes with a unique set of abilities that allow players to execute creative playstyles. However, not all agents are equally viable in the current meta, making it crucial to pick the right ones to secure victories.

That’s exactly where Esports Insider’s VALORANT agent tier list comes in.

VALORANT tier list explained

VALORANT character tier list ranks every agent currently available in VALORANT, from best to worst, based on a variety of factors. However, keep in mind that Riot Games frequently deploys balance updates, which can strengthen or weaken an agent’s ranking, so expect this list to evolve over time.

We’ve evaluated agents based on their performance in both ranked matches and pro play, across all roles, including duelists, controllers, sentinels, and initiators. That said, players should always prioritize agents they’re comfortable with while gradually expanding their pool by practising in game modes like Unranked and Swiftplay.

Tiers & ranking criteria

Here’s how we’ve categorized the agents:

  • S-tier: Agents dominating the meta, with some of them being extremely overpowered
  • A-tier: Balanced picks that perform well at all levels
  • B-tier: Decent choices, though less impactful for teamplay
  • C-tier: Require buffs to be considered more regularly
  • D-tier: Underwhelming options that should be avoided if possible

We have considered multiple factors while creating the tier list, including how beginner-friendly the agents are, their effectiveness across various maps, the value they provide to the team, pick rates in pro play, and more.

VALORANT tier list: Best VALORANT agents ranked

Here is the tier list of VALORANT agents divided into different tiers, based on patch Season 2026:

  • S-Tier: Clove, Sage, Phoenix, Reyna, Jett
  • A-Tier: Sova, Killjoy, Chamber, Fade, Raze, Neon, Gekko
  • B-Tier: Skye, Vyse, Deadlock, Cypher, Veto, Waylay, Iso, Brimstone, Breach
  • C-Tier: Tejo, Viper, Yoru, KAY/O, Astra, Omen
  • D-Tier: Harbor

S-Tier VALORANT agents

  • Duelist: Jett, Phoenix, Reyna
  • Initiator: N/A
  • Controller: Clove
  • Sentinel: Sage

There are plenty of powerful duelists, with Jett being a balanced option with great mobility to create space and help their team through rough situations. Jett is also known for rewarding great aim, while Phoenix is a jack-of-all-trades that can handle most situations. Although Reyna is known for being a ‘selfish’ duelist that can’t really help the team with her kit, there isn’t a better Agent in a 1v1.

While all these duelists are great choices, Clove is not only the best controller in the game, but probably the strongest Agent full stop. Clove is somewhat of a controller and duelist hybrid, securing kills with decaying, thrown fragments, and utilising effective smokes. Clove also gains temporary health and movement speed from dead foes, while being able to revive themself if taken down when their ultimate is up. A kill needs to be secured to stay alive, but this kit makes Clove tough to put down and stronger as the game goes on.

Sage is the only dedicated healer in VALORANT and can revive teammates with her ultimate. She can be extremely effective in certain compositions, thanks to her powerful utility.

A-Tier VALORANT agents

  • Duelist: Raze, Neon
  • Initiator: Sova, Fade, Gekko
  • Controller: N/A
  • Sentinel: Chamber, Killjoy

As duelists go, Raze’s ability to clear enemy utility is second to none. She can be simple, and that stops her from being above or alongside the top-tiers, but she’s still a very strong option. Neon is another solid duelist, but requires the team to work with her, specifically getting the right support to get the most of her harassment capabilities. Her rapid movement helps too, but she’s a tad one-dimentional.

Sova, Fade, and Gekko are our A-Tier Agents, with Sova having exceptional recon ability, making him a great option when attacking or defending. Gekko is extremely flexible with plenty of reusability, making him an awesome choice for beginners, while Fade’s ultimate makes her a very useful Initiator.

While Chamber’s effectiveness relies entirely on a player’s aim, he’s the sniper of VALORANT, and those who are great headhunters will profit immensely. Killjoy is also pretty direct in playstyle and, like Gekko, is a great choice for beginners looking to try out the sentinel class, but her overreliance on preparation stops her from being one of the very best.

B-Tier VALORANT agents

Iso from VALORANT

  • Duelist: Waylay, Iso
  • Initiator: Skye, Breach
  • Controller: Brimstone
  • Sentinel: Veto, Deadlock, Vyse, Cypher

Iso is a great team player who, surprisingly, packs a punch in a 1v1, but because he’s so reliant on his team’s performance, his own can be up and down. Waylay is similar, and if you have a team to work around her, particularly in high elo, she can be very effective. In lower elo, or as a solo queue option, she leaves a little to be desired.

Skye can be very effective on smaller maps, but that fluctuating effectiveness, paired with abilities that are too easy to destroy, doesn’t quite make her a meta option. Breach causing issues for the enemy is undeniable, but those who play Breach recklessly can also blind their allies. This potential hindrance stops Breach from placing higher in the VALORANT tiers.

Brimstone is a no-nonsense Agent. He can be a little plain; he has the longest-lasting smoke, but these smokes don’t have a great range, and his vulnerability when using them can make him an easy target.

Veto has some nasty and effective utility, but because it’s very loud, it’s hard to hide its use. Deadlock is one of the most teammate-oriented Agents, and that’s a problem if you’re solo queuing, but a great asset if you’re in a regular team, since her ultimate can be destroyed by teammates.

Vyse shines at controlling chokepoints, while Cypher is all about providing strong intel and has a round-saving ultimate. The problem with Vyse is that she’s less effective on larger maps with multiple sites, while Cypher lacks mobility.

C-Tier VALORANT agents

Viper from VALORANT

  • Duelist: Yoru
  • Initiator: Tejo, KAY/O
  • Controller: Viper, Astra, Omen
  • Sentinel: N/A

There was once a period when Yoru was just terrible, and while this is no longer the case, his high skill floor means that a lot of effort is required for mediocre reward. His clones are very fun, though.

Tejo has been suffering a series of nerfs for some time now, and while he was once near the top of the tier list, he has been thrown down the VALORANT tiers. KAY/O can be a strong counter to other Agents, but his Suppression Knife is too fragile to be an efficient tool. Pair this with a high mastery curve, and being a KAY/O player can be a rough time.

Viper is famously difficult to master, and while she specialises in setting up kills, she often needs help to secure them, which can sometimes lead to issues with communication. Astra exploded onto the scene with her introduction, but she is vulnerable in her Astral Form and can be predictable with her stars.

Omen is effectively a knowledge check. Sure, his kit can be hard to read for opponents, but at high elo, when players have knowledge of the VALORANT character roster, Omen’s strategies will be well-known and thus simpler to counter.

D-Tier VALORANT agents

Harbour from VALORANT
Harbour, VALORANT’s worst agent / Image credit: Riot Games
  • Duelist: N/A
  • Initiator: N/A
  • Controller: Harbor
  • Sentinel: N/A

Harbor unfortunately suffers from doing everything worse than other Controllers. His Cascade and High Tide don’t have the impact they should. While his water screens can slow foes and create new angles, other agents can do this even better. His entire kit feels underpowered and Harbor needs a lot more love to earn a respectable place on the VALORANT Agent tier list.

Tips to choose the right VALORANT agent

Pick according to the map

It’s important to choose agents based on the map. Maps with open sites may require double controllers, while triple-site maps can be mastered with dual initiators like Breach and Tejo. On Icebox, for example, teams can skip duelists entirely due to the limited open space on sites to capture.

Balance team composition

A balanced team should cover all roles, as each serves a distinct purpose. Without a controller, it’s difficult to enter a site or block enemy rushes. Initiators gather crucial information from around the map, sentinels hold flanks and anchor sites, and duelists take early fights to secure opening kills.

Counter the enemy’s composition

While more applicable in pro play, it helps to analyze the opponents’ go-to compositions and help the team pick theirs accordingly. For instance, against utility-heavy lineups, picking KAY/O can be an effective counter.

Prioritize comfort

Any agent can show the full scope of its abilities in the right hands. Choose the one you’re most comfortable with, and if you are confident, ask your team to build a composition around it. Trust us, no tip works better than this.

Conclusion: Practice & confidence are key

While we’ve ranked agents from S-tier to D-tier, always consider map, team comp, and personal comfort before locking in. Try out new agents in Swiftplay and Unrated to get used to them before taking them into Ranked.

Finally, communication and confidence are crucial in a momentum-based game like VALORANT.
