NBA 2K League team Magic Gaming has announced a partnership that will see Orlando Health become its official medical team.
The not-for-profit healthcare organisation will also act as a jersey sponsor for the team during the second season of the league.
Ryan DeVos, Director of Magic Gaming commented on the partnership: “We are excited to partner with Orlando Health in their shared commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of our athletes. As we prepare to embark on our second season in the NBA 2K League, we look forward to growing this partnership with Orlando Health and making our players the best they can be.”
Orlando Health will provide medical care to the players that compete under Magic Gaming, including examinations on physical and mental health and additional services through the upcoming season.
Andy Gardiner, Senior Vice President of External Affairs and Community Relations at Orlando Health added: “We’re very excited about this partnership and what it means for us as an organization and the diverse and rapidly growing community of gamers all over the world who are fans and participants in esports. This is a global stage for the Orlando Health brand and an opportunity to showcase our medical team’s ability to provide the unique care these athletes require to ensure Magic Gaming can compete and win at the highest level.”
Just yesterday, NBA 2K League entered a partnership with Champion that sees the athletic brand take ownership of game uniforms and apparel for warming up, travelling, and practicing. In-game avatars will also be kitted out in Champion branding.
Esports Insider says: It feels like two minutes ago that we were just praising San Francisco Shock for taking its players’ health seriously through a Hyperice partnership, and now this! If esports professionals are to be treated as athletes then their health needs to be prioritised just like in traditional sports. Good stuff Magic Gaming and Orlando Health!
