Annual fighting game competition Combo Breaker has announced its 2020 return with a new Chicago-area venue along with tournaments for additional games.

Combo Breaker 2020 will take place at The Renaissance Schaumburg in Schaumburg, Illinois from May 22nd-24th, with the venue open 24 hours a day during that span. The event is closer to Chicago this year, moving after the event’s previous venue in St. Charles, Illinois closed for renovations.

The weekend will feature 24 different fighting game tournaments, including competitions for games such as Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Mortal Kombat 11, Tekken 7, Killer Instinct, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It will also have the annual Mystery Tournament, which swaps games between bracket rounds.

Last year’s event drew 4,800 attendees and featured presenting sponsors Samsung and Simple Mobile, which both activated around the venue alongside other sponsors. It also hosted officially-sponsored competitions for Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat 11, and Street Fighter V in collaboration with each game’s respective publisher.

Rick Thiher, Event Director for Combo Breaker tweeted about the event: “I have been informed that this is the fastest recorded sell out of rooms at the Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel in history. Congratulations Fighting Game Community, you done did the thing.”

Esports Insider says: Combo Breaker draws a passionate audience and has become a staple of the annual fighting game calendar, topped only by Evo in terms of scale and visibility. It’s clear that demand remains strong for the event.
