Matthias Beyer, Chief Gaming Officer at Ampverse, spoke on the acquisition in a release: “We have always wanted to enter the Vietnamese market and we have been impressed with the story of SBTC.

“We want to work with dynamic co-founders, who represent the community locally in an authentic way. We at Ampverse are very delighted to welcome SBTC into its family and officially expand into one of the most vibrant esports markets, Vietnam.”

SBTC Esports currently fields professional teams in League of Legends and Wild Rift. The organisation also operates the SBTC academy, which provides funding, support and professional esports environment for young talent across Vietnam.

The organisation claims to be one of the most engaged with gaming and esports brands in Vietnam. According to analytics company Esports Charts, SBTC Esports averaged over 80,000 live viewers across the League of Legends VCS Spring 2021 season — the highest in Vietnam.

Thầy Giáo Ba, SBTC Esports Co-Founder, said: “Founding and bringing SBTC to where it is today has been an incredible journey and is not without its unique challenges and successes.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of the growing Ampverse family and will continue to give our fans the entertainment they demand and deserve.”

The deal follows the acquisition of Thai esports organisation Bacon Time in 2019. Ampverse supposedly helped the organisation secure multiple long-term commercial partnerships, including KFC, Foodpanda and Doritos.

Launched in 2019, Ampverse focuses on scaling and monetising portfolios of its acquired esports teams, aiming to ‘build influential and high-performance esports communities across Asia’. The firm has already established its presence in Singapore, Thailand, India and Vietnam.

Esports Insider says: Ampverse’s commitment to expanding Southeast Asia’s esports scene is apparent as the company enters the market of another SEA country. It will be interesting to see how the company will help SBTC Esports expand and develop, as well as which country is next on Ampverse’s radar.
