British esports organisation EXCEL ESPORTS has named Abi Odell, an experienced HR manager and founder of all-female streaming team Gulag girls, as its new People & Culture Manager.
In the role, Odell will focus on spearheading EXCEL’s ‘Power of Better’ ethos, implementing and refining employee processes and development approaches.

Odell has over 16 years of experience in HR, accumulating expertise in employee relations. This expertise is bolstered by her Advanced Diploma in Employment Law, and her long-standing membership at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
In addition to her career, Odell is an Anti-Bullying Ambassador for the Diana Award for Anti-Bullying. She is also a partnered Twitch streamer, founding the streaming team Gulag girls to help support other female content creators. Odell has used this platform to raise money for charities such as Games Aid, Get Well Gamers, and Special Effect.
Odell herself spoke about the opportunity, saying: “For me this role is really all-encompassing and I am really looking forward to making a difference at EXCEL.
“When creating a solid foundation and strong culture it is important to make sure the company operates with well-being at the heart of everything it does.”

The appointment comes after a large recruitment drive from EXCEL, Odell’s role as Head of People & Culture will see her focus on building a company culture that will bring together these new employees. She will also be formulating the company’s equality, diversity, and inclusion strategy.
