Game publisher Riot Games has teamed up with jeweller Tiffany & Co. to redesign the League of Legends World Championship Summoner’s Cup.
The redesigned trophy, which will be unveiled digitally on August 29th, is part of a new multi-year deal between the jeweller and Riot Games for League of Legends esports.
According to a release, the new Summoner’s Cup weighs around 44 pounds and stands at approximately 27 inches. Both companies highlighted an ‘extensive creative process’ and that it took roughly four months to bring the trophy to life. The trophy was made using sterling silver.
This is not the first time Tiffany and Riot Games have collaborated within the League of Legends esports ecosystem. In 2021, both entities joined forces to redesign the LPL Silver Dragon Cup in celebration of the 10th anniversary of League of Legends in China.
Riot Games has long collaborated with various brands to create unique activations, particularly during the League of Legends World Championship. Perhaps the most notable partnership regarding the Summoner’s Cup was its collaboration with luxury retail company Louis Vuitton to create a trophy case.
Last year, Riot Games also teamed up with German automotive brand Mercedes-Benz to create commemorative championship rings for the 2021 League of Legends World Championship.
Naz Aletaha, Global Head of League of Legends Esports for Riot Games, commented: “The Summoner’s Cup is a symbol of greatness in esports and the crowning achievement in League of Legends.
“The teams who hoist it represent the best of our sport — their mastery forever a part of LoL Esports’ history. As we looked to build on the prestigiousness of winning a World Championship, there was only one partner we aspired to collaborate with on the Summoner’s Cup. Tiffany & Co is a storied brand and the preeminent designer of the world’s greatest sports trophies. We’re honoured to partner with them to celebrate our past, present, and future World Champions.”
The League of Legends World Championship is set to return to North America, commencing September 29th in Mexico City with the Play-In stage. Whilst being shown digitally a month prior, the redesigned Summoner’s Cup will be officially unveiled during Worlds 2022.
