Game publisher Riot Games has announced that League of Legends’ upcoming Mid-Season Invitational tournament (MSI) will take place at the Copper Box Arena in London.
The latest edition of MSI will commence May 2nd-21st, with tickets for the event going on sale on February 23rd.
MSI 2023 is the latest in a string of esports events taking place at Copperbox, one of the sports venues built for the 2012 London Olympics.
Since then, the arena has hosted major esports events such as last year’s Rocket League Championship Series Spring Major. Most recently, the venue played host to the Apex Legends Global Series Year 3 Split 1 Playoff.
This is the first edition of MSI that will take place under a new format. Riot Games announced that this edition of the tournament will feature 13 teams instead of 11 and representatives from the LEC, LCK, LCS and LPL will each have two teams competing. Moreover, the Play-In Stage and Bracket Stage will be double-elimination.
The changes are a part of a series of overarching modifications to the League of Legends ecosystem, which included a revamped broadcast schedule and the League of Legends World Championship featuring a new format.
The LEC, League of Legends’ European competition, also saw some changes in the way ‘Splits’ work. In the LEC, there are now three Splits (Winter, Spring, and Summer), instead of two. The winner of Winter Split qualifies directly for MSI and secures a slot in the LEC Finals 2023.
The tickets for the Mid-Season Invitational 2023 will be available from February 23, with prices ranging from £24 to £94.
