The Mobile Gaming Awards (Mobies), an awards ceremony focused on the mobile gaming and esports industries, has unveiled the location and date for its inaugural event.
Founded by the team that operates the Esports Awards, the Mobies aims to recognise achievements and ‘reward excellence’ from within the industry.
The inaugural Mobies ceremony will take place on July 14th in Los Angeles, California and will see a range of awards distributed celebrating numerous categories. Awards will include the mobile game of the year and mobile player of the year, while fans can vote on other award categories.
Similar to the Esports Awards, the Mobile Gaming Awards will also feature a panel of industry experts to determine the winners of each award. Panel members include Team Queso’s Chief Operating Officer Alicia Morote Oliver, TSM General Manager Jeff ‘SuiJeneris’ Chau, and Team Heretics Chief Strategy Officer Diogo Soro.
In addition to the team behind the Esports Awards, the ceremony was also founded by mobile esports veteran Matt Rutledge, CEO of gaming guild BAYZ and former Director of Mobile Gaming for North American organisation Complexity Gaming.
The mobile esports sector continues to grow at an impressive rate. The 2022 PUBG Mobile Global Championship saw an increase in viewing figures from 2021’s tournament, while numerous titles have cemented themselves as esports mainstays within Southeast Asia.
Rutledge commented on the upcoming Mobile Gaming Awards ceremony: “I’m excited to work with such talented and innovative individuals to bring the Mobies to life.
“In a world where the mobile industry is more important now than ever it’s imperative that we recognise and reward those who contribute to the progress of this rapidly growing and changing industry.”
