The ESL One Berlin Major 2023 has recorded more peak viewers than any other Dota 2 event so far in 2023, according to the esports data platform Esports Charts. However, the tournament did register fewer average viewers than 2023’s Lima Major.
Overall, ESL One Berlin Major 2023 saw more than 500,000 peak viewers and garnered 28.3m hours watched across its 120-hour air time.
The ESL-organised event was the second Major of the current year, with the first being the Lima Major in Peru earlier in the year. The event was won by Gaimin Gladiators who beat Team Liquid in the final, making the match the most-watched of the entire tournament.
This is the second Major win in a row for Gaimin Gladiators and its third win against Team Liquid in a large tournament this year.
The ESL One Berlin Major saw a total of 507,000 peak viewers and around 235,000 average viewers. The most-watched match was the grand final, which was a Lima Major rematch.
When compared, the Berlin Major and Lima Major saw roughly the same viewership numbers. Although the Berlin Major did record a higher peak, the numbers were very similar across the board. The Lima Major saw 491,000 peak viewers and 262,000 average viewers.
When it comes to the bigger picture, the Berlin Major was the 16th most-watched event in Dota 2 history. It saw less overall engagement than the two Majors last year: the PGL Arlington Major had around 200,000 more peak viewers and the ESL One Stockholm Major saw around 100,000 more viewers.
There is one more Major to be played this year, taking place in Indonesia, before the Dota 2 teams get ready for this year’s edition of The International, which will take place in Seattle.
