UK-based university esports company NUEL has announced that it has been acquired by GGTech Entertainment.
NUEL shared the news via social media. The company will serve as GGTech’s base of operations in the UK and Ireland, and continue its work on university esports.
NUEL also announced that it will continue operating as NUEL and that senior management will remain in their positions, though the acquisition will mean that the company has a new Board of Directors.
NUEL’s new owner, GGTech, is one of the largest esports-focused companies in the Spanish-speaking world. The company produces events such as Circuito Tormenta and is behind Gamergy, one of the largest gaming events brands in Spain.
NUEL has been around since 2010 when it was started as a student project. The company has worked on a series of esports projects in the country, including TFT Rising Legends ‘Rest of EMEA’ qualifiers, Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports and many other tournaments in a range of games.
Interestingly, NUEL and GGTech worked together on the Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports event, and the two companies also partnered with the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies in 2022. NUEL’s headquarters were moved to Confetti as a result.
NUEL shared the following on LinkedIn regarding the acquisition: “For NUEL, this is a major step in our development, giving us access to the resources and expertise of GGTech, which has experience of delivering high-quality esports and gaming events on a global scale.
“What started out in 2010 as a student passion project has now grown to involve thousands of players, with a continuing mission to create inclusive, memorable and fun experiences, and provide opportunities for people to progress in their careers.”
