NBA 2K League‘s current President, Brendan Donohue, will step down from his role after October 31st.

The League did not share any reasons for Donohue’s departure but mentioned that he would provide assistance in the League’s transition to new leadership.

Donohue is a seasoned veteran in the world of both digital and real-world basketball. Prior to being named the President of the 2K League, he worked as the Senior VP of NBA’s Team Marketing and Business Operations. Prior to that, he held several positions for NBA teams including the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks.

Donohue has worked at the NBA 2K League since its inception in 2017, first as its Managing Director and later as President. During his tenure, the league saw top NBA teams join and the number of teams grew from 17 to a total of 25. The 2K League also signed the likes of Champion, SAP and Google as its partners and recorded consistent viewership numbers.

According to Esports Charts, the NBA 2K League: 2023 Playoffs recorded a peak viewership of 46,167 and an average viewership of 30,412 across its near 22-hour air time.

The 2K League did not share any plans for Donohue’s replacement or the potential plans for new leadership, but with the current President still being around until October 31st to aid the transition, news of a new President is bound to happen prior to then.

President of the NBA 2K League Brendan Donohue commented: “It has been an incredible privilege to lead the NBA 2K League and witness its evolution over these past six years. Working and engaging with talented colleagues, the very best NBA 2K players in the world, and a growing community of passionate fans has been such a rewarding experience.

“I am proud of what we accomplished together and look forward to taking on my next challenge in the sports industry.”
