North American eyewear brand Bye Blue Light has announced partnerships with collegiate esports programmes Baldwin Wallace University Esports and USC Sumter Esports.
The two partnerships are the latest in an expanding roster of collegiate and varsity esports partnerships between Bye Blue Light and educational institutions in North America.
As its name suggests, Bye Blue Light is a company specialising in creating blue light-blocking eyewear that claims to reduce eye strain during tasks that involve screens, such as esports, gaming, programming and other uses. The company is currently lobbying local legislators to approve blue light glasses for medical purposes, though research on the link between blue light and eye strain remains murky.
Terms nor activation details for the eyewear brand’s partnerships with Baldwin Wallace University Esports and USC Sumter Esports — the collegiate esports programmes at the two respective universities — were not disclosed. However, a release states that the glasses will be used by players to ‘perform at their best’ and safeguard player’s vision health and wellbeing.
These latest partnerships come after a string of similar such collegiate-focused partnerships by Bye Blue Light. The company is a partner of several North American collegiate esports bodies including the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC), the Missouri Scholastic Esports Federation, the Illinois High School Esports Association, as well as other specific collegiate programmes including the University of Arizona’s Arizona Esports and University of Louisville’s Louisville Esports.
Most of the partnerships between Bye Blue Light and institutions will see their respective teams equipped by eyewear that is claimed to help them with their daily activities and performance.
Jake Grasso, the Director of Esports at Baldwin Wallace Esports noted that the move is a part of a holistic approach in helping players and students’ well-being.
The partnership with the NECC for example, will see Bye Blue Light and NECC work together on education initiatives and webinar, and the eyewear company will even hand out several scholarships each year.
