The University of Texas at Austin and Dell Technologies have announced a new esports and gaming venue.

According to a release, the University of Texas at Austin is one of the largest universities in the United States by enrollment. The university first worked with DELL’s Alienware brand in 2022 to create the Alienware Esports Lounge, which aimed to provide a space for students to socialise and compete in various games.

The University also has an esports and gaming section called Longhorn Gaming, offering interested students a place to compete with those of similar interests.

The Lounge and Arena will combine to provide a large-scale space for all students interested in competing and practising in esports. The hardware brand said that it worked closely with the University of Texas Austin to co-design and outfit the space, and the two spaces now offer more than 50 gaming stations combined.

University of Texas at Austin President Jay Hartzell commented on the launch: “This state-of-the-art Arena, added to the Alienware lounge that opened last year, further establishes UT as a leader in esports and will help position current and future Longhorns as competitors and innovators in an industry that is forecast to quadruple in market size by the end of this decade.

“I am grateful for our longtime partnership with Dell Technologies and their continued investment in creating unparalleled opportunities for our students.”
