American Football player Dexter Lawrence, currently playing for the New York Giants in the NFL, has joined esports and entertainment organisation Agent as its newest content creator.
Lawrence, nicknamed ‘Sexy Dexy’, will work with Agent on content creation, branding and other activities that help boost the organisation’s appeal with sports fans and the general public.
Lawrence recently launched his Twitch channel where he streamed Call of Duty matches. In the sports world, Lawrence is an established defensive player for the Giants, having renewed a contract with the team worth almost $100m (~£78.8m) recently.
Agent is an esports brand founded in 2019 by Conrad Thompson. The organisation is best known for its Fortnite rosters, which competed in the 2023 FNCS Global Championship and took home seventh and ninth places in the final tournament.
The organisation also has partnerships with several big-name brands such as Coca-Cola, Six Flags and ZOWIE by BENQ.
Lawrence joins a growing number of professional athletes that are looking towards esports to support the industry and grow their own personal brands.
Kenny Vaccaro, a former NFL Safety, launched esports organisation G1, while Philadelphia Eagles player Boston Scott joined the Dignitas Rocket League roster in early 2022. Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs joined Complexity Gaming later in the same year, and former NFL player Ahman Green joined forces with CTRL to become its brand ambassador.
Dexter Lawrence commented in a release: “Joining Agent is a dream come true. I play various games, and I’ve always been competitive. To be a part of this esports team and growing with it competitively is going to make gaming much more fun and exciting! I look forward to being a part of such a dynamic and innovative organisation.”
