True Gamers, a network of esports lounges, has partnered with multinational technology company Sony to host a women’s showmatch for International Women’s Day (March 8th) for the MENA region.
The event will take place at the True Gamer’s Blue Waters Club and will be streamed on True Gamer’s Twitch channel.
Sony’s INZONE Female Show Match will feature two teams captained by Madiha Naz of Galaxy Racer and Kĩllệr Bùúƞý of BME Esports. The teams will fight for its 3,400 AED (~£720) winning prize whilst the runners-up will secure 2,000 AED (~£424).
The League of Legends show match will have a best-of-three format and a full production team. The Dubai esports lounge where the showmatch is taking place has been used by True Gamer for events in the past as it has played host to regional casual tournaments.
True Gamers recently made a huge expansion to its operation, announcing that it is investing $45m (~£35m) towards opening 150 esports lounges within Saudi Arabia. This adds to a large amount of esports lounges already in use in Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
For Sony, the official strategic partner of the event, the company will be allowing gamers to experience first-hand its audio cancelling technology of the INZONE Buds. The company is no stranger to esports as last year it announced a multi-year deal with esports organisation Fnatic.
Vlad Belyanin, the co-founder and CPO of True Gamers, commented on the event: “True Gamers is proud to celebrate and empower women in gaming.
“This tournament, held on International Women’s Day, is an ideal platform to showcase their talent and passion for esports. The company plans to continue to support diversity and opportunities for women in the cybersports industry. Moreover, True Gamers plans to launch the Female Club, an initiative and cybersports arena designed entirely for women.”
