Indian esports media platform TalkEsport has raised $1m (~£800,250) in a Pre-Series A funding round.

The funding round, led by Saswat Ventures, will be used to facilitate TalkEsport’s growth as it looks to consolidate its position as one of the region’s largest media platforms in the esports sector.

According to a release, TalkEsport will scale up its website, launch a mobile app and create a production studio in Mumbai. The studio will be responsible for launching IPs focused on the gaming and esports industries.

The TalkEsport app will provide users with coverage of tournaments, live scoring and the ability to participate in tournaments. The aim is to enable users to compete and view its content from a single source.

Founded in 2011, TalkEsport is one of India’s largest esports outlets and provides coverage across a number of tournaments taking place across the country and the surrounding region. The country’s esports sector continues to grow at an impressive rate. In April 2024, industry stakeholders met with the Prime Minister to discuss industry developments.

The growth of the country’s industry has also led to the creation of new companies. In February 2024, esports veterans  Abhijeet ‘Ghatak’ Andhare and Sunny ‘Fea’ Lohia created Trident Gaming, a company focused on grassroots projects.

Deepak Ojha, Founder and CEO of TalkEsport, spoke on the news: “We are delighted to welcome Saswat Ventures as our strategic partner.

“Their belief in our vision and commitment to the esports ecosystem align seamlessly with our mission to redefine gaming experiences globally. With this investment, we will be scaling up our newsroom to cater to gaming communities worldwide while launching new content IPs targeted towards Indian and international audiences.”
