The ALGS is the top esports series for Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale game Apex Legends. The tournament has a two-split format, with two large international playoff events called the Split Playoffs alongside a global finals tournament. The playoffs feature 40 teams each and a $1m (~£790,800) prize pool. 30 of the best teams by points from Split 1 and Split 2 go to the ALGS 2024 Championship later in the year.

The upcoming tournament is the first-ever time that the ALGS is hosting a LAN event in Germany. The venue, called the SAP Arena, is a well-known sports and entertainment venue that usually seats around 15,000 people for sporting events. Interestingly, the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs will also be the first-ever esports event at the SAP Arena. The finals are to take place between August 29th and September 1st.

John Nelson, Senior. Director of Esports at EA Entertainment, commented on the announcement: “The Split 2 Playoffs marks Apex Legends esports’ highly anticipated return to Europe and our first-ever ALGS event in Germany. With past stops in the UK, the US, and now Germany, we’re continuing to deliver more ALGS action to more fans around the world.”

Germany is the latest stop for ALGS teams after the first split of this year took place in Los Angeles, USA. The Split 1 Playoffs recorded around 567,000 peak viewers, which is a slight drop when compared to the same split last year.
