UK-based esports organisation Guild Esports and telecommunications company Sky have joined forces to launch a map within free-to-play battle royale title Fortnite.

The map, known as Sky City, will launch alongside a marketing campaign and a series of live streams.

The ‘Speed Showdown’ will see players competing alongside content creators across a set of challenges within the map. Winners will receive prizes from Sky Broadband while highlights of the broadcasts will be promoted across Guild Esports and Sky’s social media channels.

The Fortnite map was created through Guild Studios, the organisation’s production and creative service division, in collaboration with gaming studio UMI Games. According to a release, the division aims to use the launch of Sky City ‘to reinforce its position as a leading creator of innovative gaming environments.’

Fortnite continues to act as a platform for brands to create projects within the gaming and esports industries. In recent months, the likes of Manchester City, Whataburger, and Dairy MAX have used the game for various marketing initiatives.

2024 has been a turbulent year for Guild Esports. In August, the organisation announced it was in talks with investment company DCB Sports over a potential acquisition after announcing it was exploring financial options.

Jasmine Skee, CEO of Guild Esports, spoke on the campaign: We are thrilled to partner with Sky Broadband on the Sky City launch in Fortnite.

“This is the new frontier of digital marketing, with active and engaged users having authentic brand experiences. We can’t wait to see players enjoy the many unique elements we’ve  weaved into the map and to be part of a project that connects and entertains.”
