Indus, a battle royale mobile game developed by Indian studio SuperGaming, has surpassed 1m downloads across iOS and Android platforms following its launch on October 16th.

Alongside revealing the achievement, SuperGaming has announced a year-long esports roadmap titled Clutch India Movement, featuring official and third-party events.

The made-in-India battle royale title had garnered 14m pre-registrations ahead of its release. On launch day, the company noted that Indus reached the top of the charts for free-to-play games on the iOS App Store as well as the Google Play Store.

Indus aims to differentiate itself from other members of the battle royal genre through its ‘Grudge system’, allowing players to declare rivalries amongst each other. Since release, more than 200,000 ‘grudges’ have been declared.

With the game’s initial success, developer SuperGaming has launched its esports vision for the first year of Indus’ lifecycle. The studio plans to combine tournaments and community events to build a thriving esports community. Moreover, SuperGaming will actively encourage third-party organisers to host Indus events and tournaments by providing proprietary tools.

The first official competition, the Indus International Tournament, will kick off in November. Throughout four phases, top Indian and international teams will compete for a prize pool of INR 2.5 crores (~£228,000). The Indus International Mahasangram will follow in October 2025.

As Indus enters the mobile esports landscape, it is joining the likes of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), Free Fire and PUBG Mobile (Battlegrounds Mobile India), which have already established themselves within the Asian and Southeast Asian competitive gaming communities.

MLBB is looking towards the conclusion of its 2024 esports season, with the M6 World Championship in November. Meanwhile, PUBG Mobile recently elevated its competitive infrastructure by introducing the Ultimate Royale in-game ranked system. The new system features the same rules used in professional competitions.

Roby John, CEO and co-founder of SuperGaming commented on the successful launch of Indus: We are incredibly humbled by the response from our community.

“Reaching 1m downloads on launch day and topping the iOS and Google Play charts is a major milestone for us, but we know this is just the beginning. As we continue to grow, we’re committed to making Indus even better with every update, built hand-in-hand with our community.”
