Esports and gaming company Freaks 4U Gaming has renewed its League of Legends operator licence for the Prime League, Riot Games’ European Regional League (ERL) for the DACH region (Germany, Switzerland and Austria).

The licence will cover 2025 to 2027. Freaks 4U Gaming has been intertwined in the German League of Legends ecosystem since 2018 when it became the operator of the Premier Tour, which later changed to the Prime League in 2020.

According to a release, the renewal is seen as a major milestone by both entities in terms of supporting the development of League of Legends’ EMEA ecosystem. Freaks 4U Gaming noted that since operating the Prime League, the competition has produced 680 broadcasts totalling 3,500 hours of content.

The Prime League is considered one of the largest European Regional Leagues in the League of Legends ecosystem, only behind the likes of Spain and France. The competition’s highest viewership occurred earlier this year with Prime League Spring 2024 garnering peak figures of 83,681.

Based in Germany, Freaks 4U Gaming has undergone significant changes in 2024, notably being acquired by Indian esports company NODWIN Gaming for €30.3m (~£25.6m). The company also previously operated the Nordic, UK and Ireland ERL, the NLC, prior to Leagues.gg taking over in 2024.

Alongside Freaks 4U Gaming’s new agreement, the company also announced that German health insurance company Techniker Krankenkasse will continue as a title partner for 2025. First announced in January 2024, the competition will still be named Die Techniker Prime League for the upcoming season.

Matthias Remmert, Senior Vice President of Product, TV and Media Production for Freaks 4U Gaming, commented: “We are incredibly excited about the licence renewal for Prime League, it is a testament to the solid foundation Freaks has laid and our commitment to elevating the League of Legends ecosystem in the DACH region. We appreciate the trust from Riot Games and look forward to our continued partnership.”

Outside of German esports, the wider EMEA League of Legends ecosystem is set to undergo significant changes in 2025 with the LEC unveiling its new format and calendar.
