Gaming web browser Opera GX has announced a partnership with geography guessing title GeoGuessr.

As a result of the deal, the web browser has become the official browser of the 2025 GeoGuessr World Championship.

Opera GX will be used to power the entirety of the GeoGuessr World Championship, providing players with access to GX Control, a feature that optimises resource allocation for the best performance while playing the browser-based title.

In addition, the browser will create a dedicated avatar which will appear within GeoGuessr. All profits generated from the sale of the avatar will contribute to the event’s prize pool.

This year, the prize pool will begin at $100,000 (~£74,641).

“Our partnership with Geoguessr’s World Championship is a natural fit,” said Maciej Kocemba, Product Director at Opera GX. “2GX offers the customisation, control, and browsing features that match the way players engage with games and gaming culture. We are excited to see how this year’s competition plays out.”

The browser is no stranger to supporting esports events. In October 2024, it partnered with tournament organiser BLAST for the BLAST Premier World Final. In September, it also joined forces with Riot Games to become the developer and publisher’s global esports partner.

GeoGuessr Esports On the Rise

GeoGuessr has held esports competitions since 2023 following the success of the GeoGuessr Team World Cup in 2022. The 2024 edition of the World Championship attracted peak viewing figures of 254,000, three times more than its 2023 event.

For 2025, the title will host three Major events in Tokyo, Dallas, and Jönköping before the World Finals in Copenhagen from August 29th to 30th.

The World Finals will feature 16 players determined through the Majors, the World League and Wildcard events that provides players with an additional pathway to qualify for the competition.

ESI Ranking System
We’ve created a ranking system to help you quickly know how good each gambling platform is. As gamblers ourselves, we know which factors matter most to you, so we follow a best-in-class methodology to test each one with no stone unturned. Once done, we then rank each platform based on the following tiers:
  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
  • S-Tier Reserved for elite operators only. These go well beyond the norm with lucrative bonuses, rewarding promotions, lightning-fast payouts, and a flawless experience overall.
