Following Wolves Esports’ underdog victory in 2024, Teamfight Tactics is returning to this year’s Esports World Cup.

Here is everything fans need to know about the Esports World Cup 2025: Teamfight Tactics tournament, from August 11th-15th.

The Esports World Cup (EWC) is a multi-title esports festival organised by the Saudi Arabian government-backed EWC Foundation. The event’s second edition will take place in Riyadh from July 8th until August 24th, featuring a total prize pool of $70m (~£54.3m).

As part of a deal with Riot Games, Teamfight Tactics (TFT) will join the EWC alongside League of Legends and VALORANT for three years. This year, the EWC TFT tournament will see 16 teams compete for a $500,000 (~£372,600) prize pool.

However, high-placing squads will also earn Club Points, increasing their organisation’s chances of winning EWC 2025’s Club Championship.

EWC 2025: Teamfight Tactics Format

The TFT event will be divided into two phases – the Group Stage and the Playoffs. The 16 teams will first form four double-elimination group brackets with four rosters per group. The top two squads from each group will advance to the single-elimination Playoffs bracket.

All matches will be best-of-threes (BO3s) except for the best-of-five (BO5) Grand Final.

The prize pool and Club Points distribution are as follows:

EWC 2025: Teamfight Tactics Schedule

The Group Stage of the EWC 2025: TFT competition will run for three days, starting on August 11th. The Playoffs will be divided across the following two days, with the Quarter Finals on August 14th and the Semifinals and Grand Final on August 15th.

All matches will most likely be broadcast on the official EWC Twitch and YouTube channels. Moreover, fans can buy venue tickets via the dedicated website.

EWC 2025: Teamfight Tactics Teams

TFT teams can qualify for the tournament through several qualifiers. The Asian Champions League (ACL) 2025 has already determined three slots from its APAC and China divisions:

  • Flash Wolves (ACL APAC Qualifier #1)
  • T1 (ACL APAC Qualifier #2)
  • Virtus.pro (ACL APAC Qualifier #3)
  • Team Falcons (ACL CN Qualifier #1)
  • Weibo Gaming (ACL CN Qualifier #2)
  • Twisted Minds (ACL CN Qualifier #3)

In addition, Wolves Esports will return to defend its 2024 trophy. However, the Chinese roster has only achieved mediocre results since its surprising success at last year’s EWC. The Wolves failed to qualify for the Asian Champions League 2025 and have mainly competed in B-tier events.

The American and EMEA Closed Qualifiers are running from May 2nd until June 1st, each offering three EWC slots. The three remaining will be allocated at the Global Qualifier from June 6th-8th.
