OpTic Texas, a Call of Duty League franchise owned by OpTic Gaming, has announced that it has signed Mason ‘Mercules’ Ramsey to its starting lineup.

As a result of the change, Cesar ‘Skyz’ Bueno has become a substitute.

An announcement confirming the big roster change was made May 6th, 2025, on OpTic‘s social media channels. It comes after the first week of Major 4 qualifiers concluded, with OpTic Texas scoring a 3-0 victory against Major 3 runners-up, Vancouver Surge.

Interest in Mercules skyrocketed after the Challengers player acted as a temporary substitute for Toronto Ultra at Major 3, filling in for Ben ‘Beans’ McMellon, who was unable to attend the event due to visa issues.

The acquisition of Mercules marks the fifth roster change for OpTic Texas in 2025. In February, Amer ‘Pred’ Zulbeari rejoined the team, replacing Cuyler ‘Huke’ Garland, while March saw Kenny ‘Kenny’ Williams leave in place of Skyz. In late March, Huke rejoined the starting lineup in place of Pred.

For fans of OpTic Texas, the change comes as a surprise after Anthony ‘Shotzzy’ Cuevas-Castro revealed the team wouldn’t switch players for the remainder of the Major.

A Smart Move For OpTic Texas?

Throughout the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 season, OpTic Texas has struggled to find the form that saw the franchise win the 2024 CDL Championship. Having made several changes in a bid to rediscover former glory, the signing of Mercules could be the catalyst that sees the Green Wall return towards the top of the table.

Major 4 is the final Major before attention turns to Championship Weekend. If Mercules can showcase his skill in a similar fashion to his CDL debut, there’s every possibility of OpTic Texas picking up more victories during online qualifiers, along with making a deep run at the LAN event.
