Complexity Founder and CEO Jason Lake has taken to social media to apologise for the early exit of his organisation’s Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) team from the BLAST.tv Austin Major.

The North American organisation were eliminated after the first stage of matches in CS2’s first US-based Major in seven years.

In an X post following the team’s exit from its home Major, Lake issued a simple one-word apology — “sorry” — after the team became one of five teams to be eliminated from the tournament after four rounds of the first stage.

Complexity’s Major campaign started on the back foot with a defeat to eventual Stage 2 qualifiers OG Esports. The team rebounded with a 13-9 victory over Fluxo to set up an all-American clash against NRG in round three. NRG emerged victorious, putting Complexity one map away from elimination.

To remain in the Austin Major, the organisation faced off against the Chinese team of TYLOO. A disappointing CT side on Train saw TYLOO take a 13-8 win, leaving Complexity requiring two map wins to advance to the fifth and final round of Stage 1. Despite a better performance on Inferno, the Chinese side scored a 13-11 victory, knocking Complexity out of the Major.

In addition to Lake’s apology, Complexity in-game leader Ioannis ‘JT’ Theodosiou also spoke on the elimination: “Just a terrible performance from us this week. Regardless of stand-in, we should’ve played better.”

Prior to the Major, Complexity unveiled Paytyn ‘Junior’ Johnson as its stand-in after Håkon ‘hallzerk’ Fjærli experienced issues with visa applications, leaving him unable to enter the United States.

“We are all extremely disappointed as we think we should have at least made the second stage,” added Michael ‘Grim’ Wince. “Feels horrible for me right now because Austin is a home for me, and I wanted to perform here more than anything.”
