Ninjas in Pyjamas (NIP) has been removed from the World Series of Warzone (WSOW) after the account of one of its players was hit with a controversial ban.
As a result, the Swedish esports organisation is no longer competing at the Global Finals taking place later this year.
After earning a place in the EMEA Regional Final, Steve ‘Stewo’ Fuckner revealed his Activision ID was hit with a permanent ban, preventing him from competing in any upcoming Call of Duty: Warzone tournaments.
With NIP no longer competing in the Regional Final, Alex ‘KINGAJ’ Graham and Stanley ‘Omenic’ Mcleman will look to compete in the last-chance qualifier, taking place on August 21st, 2025.
“We have been removed from WSOW due to Activision’s faulty anti-cheat,” said Omenic on social media. “Unlike others, me and AJ will not be able to get a substitute. Honestly, a joke of a game.”
NIP attempted to gain clarity surrounding Stewo’s ban, with tournament operators revealing the ban is due to an unauthorised use of third-party software. The player has maintained his innocence and denied any wrongdoing.
The organisation has yet to comment on the situation and the future of the roster, which was signed in May.
What Next For World Series Of Warzone?
From July 22nd to 30th, the elimination rounds and Regional Finals for North America and Europe are taking place. 50 teams from both regions will compete in six matches, with the top 15 teams earning a place in the Global Final and the bottom 35 squads advancing to the last-chance qualifier.
Activision has yet to share any information surrounding the location of the Global Final and its date. The publisher of the battle royale title has confirmed teams will be competing for a $1m (~£741,136) prize pool. Eight teams from Latin America and Asia Pacific have already qualified for the event.
