VALORANT developer Riot Games has unveiled that North American team Sentinels was the most voted team in fans’ Pick’Ems to make it to the VCT Masters Toronto Grand Final.
According to a post by the VALORANT Champions Tour, a total of 1.1m Pick’Ems were submitted for the second Masters event of the season, with 317,841 fans ending in the top 20%. The interest was high from the beginning of the tournament, with over 350,000 users recording Pick’ems during both the Swiss stage and Playoffs.
Why Fans Chose To Back Sentinels?
Fans choosing Sentinels as one of the VCT Masters finalists prove fans expectations of the VCT Americas Stage 1 finalist coming into the tournament. Moreover, it also further highlights the popularity of the North American organisation.
Despite a strong Swiss stage run, Sentinels dropped first to eventual champions Paper Rex in the upper bracket and were then knocked out by Fnatic in the elimination series.
VALORANT Masters Toronto proved to be a tournament filled with several upsets and a Chinese underdog team, as Wolves Esports defeated both RRQ and Gen.G in the playoffs upper bracket. As a result, Pick’Ems for the event proved to be difficult for much of the community.
Pick’Ems returned to the VALORANT scene after last year’s VALORANT Champions Tour. It is an interactive way for esports fans to actively engage in international competitions and reward them by making correct predictions.
Developed in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of e-commerce company Amazon that provides cloud computing platforms and APIs, Pick’Ems have been brought across both of Riot Games’ flagship titles. As a result, Pick’ems have also been running for the ongoing League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational.
Previously, the Pick’Em Challenge was only available during the year-end game’s World Championship.
