A new Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) update has addressed an issue that impacted the spray patterns of the first-person shooter title’s weapon arsenal.
The update applied on September 19th, 2025, follows the title’s Show Off update, which introduced subtick adjustments and a new skin collection.
Following the Show Off update from September 17th, professional players noticed an inconsistency in spray patterns while using weapons during competitive play, resulting in high-profile names criticising Valve on social media.
The latest update reveals it ‘fixed a regression to view punch which affected weapon sprays’. As a result, the patterns have returned to their original form, providing players with the consistency experienced before the arrival of the Genesis skin collection.
In addition to a fix to weapon sprays, the September 19th update also fixed an issue that impacted server performance and the frame rate of players.
This is the eighth update for CS2 in September as Valve continues its attempts to optimise gameplay elements to ensure consistency throughout casual and competitive game modes. On September 4th, it fixed an issue where audio wouldn’t visualise correctly on the in-game mini-map.
Esports Impact
The fix to spray patterns will enable players to hit their shots with greater precision during matches. CS2’s predictable spray pattern allows players to fire fully automatic weaponry accurately by moving the mouse to compensate for recoil.
Thanks to Valve’s quick response, the familiar spray patterns will be in place for the FISSURE Playground 2 Playoffs and StarLadder StarSeries Season 19, two Tier 1 events featuring several of the world’s top teams.
While the developer has managed to fix one issue, the community has switched its focus, requesting Valve to improve the server tick rate for an even smoother experience. “Okay now give up on subtick and give us 128 [tick rate] and we’ll be all set,” commented one player.
