16-year-old Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) player Liam ‘MaiL09‘ Tügel has scored the highest ELO rating on esports tournament platform FACEIT.
The Metizport rifler reached a peak of 5,415 ELO, beating the previous record set by Danil ‘donk‘ Kryshkovets in July.
MaiL09 has established himself as one of FACEIT’s top prospects after reaching the top of the global leaderboards on September 2nd. As a result of setting a new ELO record, the player remains on course to become the platform’s youngest-ever champion.
Since joining FACEIT in 2021, MaiL09 has competed in over 3,700 matches on the platform, maintaining a 45% win rate over the past four years.
Regarded as a Counter-Strike prodigy, MaiL09 has quickly become one of Sweden’s most exciting players. June saw him score victory at Svenska Elitserien Spring 2025, cementing his place as a force to be reckoned with in regional tournaments.
If Mail09 manages to end the current FACEIT season at the top of the leaderboards, he would beat several professional players who also compete on the platform. With the likes of Donk competing in various international tournaments, Gentle Mates AWPer Antonio ‘Martinez‘ Martinez has also climbed into the top ten.
What’s Next for MaiL09?
Ranked 121st in October’s CS2 Valve Regional Standings (VRS), Metizport’s 2025 season isn’t over yet. The Scandinavian esports organisation is one of eight teams competing at the Svenska Cupen 2025 event from November 12th to 15th.
The eight teams attending the Tier 2 event will battle for a chance to win a share of a 300,000 SEK (~£24,005) prize pool, along with VRS points that will determine which teams earn places at the IEM Cologne Major 2026.
Players who feature at the top of the FACEIT leaderboards often attract the attention of esports organisations looking to recruit new talent. It will be interesting to see whether MaiL09 receives any interest from teams looking to rebuild for 2026.
