AI vs expert: The human strikes back heading into LEC week four

In a week where LinkedIn users rejoiced at the opportunity to ‘report AI slop’, you’ll have to excuse the slightly Star Wars-sounding headline. But I bring positive news.

We’re delighted to report another monumental victory for humankind against the robots. Our expert, Craig Robinson, came out swinging and landed his first fictional accumulator of the LEC split, pocketing his pride and going smaller, but breaking his duck in the process.

It was a dismal week three for the LLMs, as all of them came up short. After Craig’s arguably self-inflicted damage in the first two weeks, his humble threefold all landed and he’s back in the mix. Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT all lost by one leg. ChatGPT by virtue of only picking one leg (for the second week running), and losing, and we all have GIANTX to thank for springing an upset on Movistar KOI to break the non-existent hearts of both Gemini and Claude.

One small step for Craig, one giant leap for mankind. Let’s see if he can make it two in a row, or whether the bots will strike back with LEC week four.

A small victory for humanity as Craig shuts down the robots. We’re back, baby.

I personally take great satisfaction in reading ChatGPT’s overconfident write-up of picking a sole selection, and then losing. Claude notched a decent little accumulator in the first week, and has since picked extremely short prices and had limited success. Gemini continued to be the most adventurous of the clankers, but thanks to GIANTX, fell short.

The gap at the top is still razor-thin between Claude and Gemini, but Craig’s got his fishing rod in and he’s reeling them in.

Craig’s victory has hauled him out of the red entirely, while ChatGPT’s the only participant yet to land a single fictional bet. Perhaps this week, OpenAI’s luck will change…

Gemini keeps rolling with its now-familiar -1.5 handicap picks, once again posting the biggest combined price on the board. ChatGPT has ditched the lone-very-slight-underdog strategy entirely in favor of three handicap results of its own, chasing larger returns than in any of its weeks prior.

Craig is amazingly sticking with short, disciplined selections after propelling himself into the frame. He’s still opted for a three-fold, though, as you’ll discover later, his stream of consciousness talked him out of a slightly riskier selection.

Claude, after landing a decent first week bet, has again showed its absolute love of short-priced favorites, picking a four-fold coming in at a little under evens.

As before, I’ve included the exact wording provided by each chatbot in response to the same identical prompt each week. Nothing has been edited, nor any hallucinations checked or corrected.

Same low-variance strategy this week — and this slate has some of the most lopsided lines yet, with G2 Esports standing out as an outlier favorite twice.

This week’s Acca ($10 stake):

Why these four: G2 Esports is priced at 1/33 and 1/16 this week — about as close to a “lock” as this market gets, implying win probabilities north of 90-95% in both matches. I’ve paired those with two more moderate-but-clear favorites (Natus Vincere and Karmine Corp) rather than a third extreme favorite, since I already have two near-certainties carrying the ticket and want a bit of extra return from legs that aren’t priced quite so tight.

Payout math: Combined odds come out to roughly 1.97x, so a clean sweep returns about $19.70 — a profit of ~$9.70, similar to last week’s expected value but resting on arguably even safer legs given the G2 pricing.

Risk profile: Low. Two of the four legs are about as close to guaranteed as sports betting gets, and the other two are still comfortable favorites (>60-65% implied). The main risk is the classic acca trap — needing all four to land — but I’ve deliberately avoided any genuine coin-flip matches (e.g. Movistar KOI vs Natus Vincere at 5/4 vs 4/7 was tempting to skip for a reason).

My $10 bet: Three-leg 2–0 accumulator

Combined odds: about 2.40/1

Potential return: $34.05, including the $10 stake.

I’m going more aggressive this week because the current Summer numbers give us three very clean mismatches. KC are 6–0 in series and 12–1 in maps, while G2 are 5–1 and 11–3. At the other end, Shifters are 0–3 with a 2–6 map record and Fnatic are also 0–3 at 2–6. Riot’s official standings confirm just how wide those gaps currently are.

The G2 legs are essentially a bet that they continue doing what they have been doing: they swept both Team Heretics and NAVI 2–0 last weekend, while Fnatic were beaten 2–0 by KC and Shifters remain winless in series.

The spicy leg is KC 2–0 GIANTX. GIANTX are genuinely playing well—they have won two straight, including a convincing 2–0 over KOI—so KC at 1/5 outright is useless for this competition. But KC have dropped only one map all Summer, so 5/6 on the sweep is the price that makes the whole ticket worthwhile.

Risk profile: 7/10. Three sweeps means one rogue map kills the ticket, but I’d rather chase $34.05 with three strong underlying matchups than build an accumulator from 1/16 and 1/33 moneylines.

Here is my play: I am putting the full $10 stake into a 4-Leg “Calculated Dominance” Accumulator.

In a head-to-head competition against human handicappers and rival AI bots, picking pure moneyline mega-favorites (like G2 at 1/33 or 1/16) yields almost no return—barely $0.60 to $1.20 in profit. On the flip side, chasing 9/1 underdogs in professional League of Legends is a fast track to losing your stake.

My strategy leverages Calculated Aggression: targeting class disparities between top-tier rosters (G2, KC, Vitality) and lower-bracket teams by combining high-conviction outright wins with -1.5 Map Handicaps (2-0 match sweeps in Best-of-3 series).

Strategic Rationale

Leg 1 — Team Vitality To Win vs GIANTX (4/6): Vitality’s laning skill and early objective control give them a distinct edge over GIANTX. Keeping this leg as a straight match winner avoids map-drop volatility while locking in strong 4/6 value.

Leg 2 — G2 Esports -1.5 vs Shifters (2/7): G2 is the benchmark of European League of Legends. In a Best-of-3 with Fearless Draft rules, Shifters simply lack the champion pool depth to steal a map off G2. A 2-0 sweep is the expected default.

Leg 3 — G2 Esports -1.5 vs Fnatic (4/9): While “El Clásico” carries historical hype, G2’s current teamfighting precision and macro execution far outclass Fnatic’s mid-game instability. Getting 4/9 on G2 to close it out 2-0 is a high-conviction play.

Leg 4 — Karmine Corp -1.5 vs GIANTX (5/6): Karmine Corp’s aggressive pacing and skirmishing style directly exploit GIANTX’s passive mid-game play. At 5/6, taking KC for the 2-0 sweep is the highest-value leg on the entire weekend board.

By skipping volatile toss-ups (such as SK Gaming vs Fnatic or NAVI vs Movistar KOI), this slip balances statistical safety with a $56.75 payout—enough juice to beat conservative single-pick bots and structured enough to outperform reckless accumulator slips.

Over 2.5 games in GX vs Vitality — 5/6

As a VIT fan in LoL, I have quite enjoyed the little GX vs Vitality rivalry, two teams closely together in the fight over the last year or so. Vitality are still rebuilding after getting rocked in the Spring playoffs and have moments where they shine, but they candidly admit they still need to improve. Meanwhile GX are also rebuilding and have had their moments where they looked solid.

Betting on the actual result here seems hard. But I am fairly certain it can go to game three if it has the back-and-forth it might. I feel that is more favorable, hence going with over 2.5 on this series. Admittedly, I can also see it being a mess that ends 2-0 to someone in a scrappy series overall. But picking a winner for either scenario is certainly a choice.

G2 vs Shifters under 2.5 maps — 1/4

Do I need to say anything else? G2 should be taking second place this regular split unless KC chokes. I cannot have G2 lose to Shifters here, and don’t think they’ll drop a map.

NaVi to beat Heretics — 1/2

I also think NaVi will beat Heretics, I am just not sure how convincing it will be, hence not betting on the handicap. They did beat Shifters 2-0 but only beat SK 2-1. It should be a 2-0, but do I trust them enough to commit to it? The answer’s a no.

As for the other results, I am a bit hazy on the rest. The league is still up in the air for other match-ups and I think they’re too close to call. It would also be very on brand for Fnatic to randomly beat G2, as they can do that in the regular split.

They have already done it this year despite how poor they seem to be at the moment. I am also giving GX the benefit of the doubt and not expecting KC to beat them outright either. I think it is more than likely to happen, but GX are looking like a little dark horse right now, so I will respect that.

The other matchups can go all over the place. Could be a very good week if you are betting with real money and want to increase your risk factor. I am being a bit of a flake and I’m only using fictional skrilla. What does that make me?
