South Korean esports organisation Gen.G has partnered with the University of Warwick Esports Centre to run an ‘Esports Winter Camp’ for students.

The organisation, which first announced the partnership on its Chinese social media channels, said the joint venture would take place between January 26th – February 5th 2024.

The camp will allow participating students to experience Warwick’s business school courses, as well as visit UK esports teams and game developers based in Leamington Spa (a regional hub for game developers).

Students will also be able to attend a Q&A about studying abroad at the University of Warwick.

The Esports Winter Camp will last 11 days (10 nights). Warwick Esports and Gen.G said participants would “personally experience the esports learning journey at esports centre” and receive exposure into the gaming industry and academia.

Based in Coventry, England, the University of Warwick has one of the most established university esports programmes, including its £275,000 esports centre which opened in 2021. The university received a £135,000 grant from the government last year in order to provide young people with opportunities through esports and won its fifth consecutive Esports University of the Year award in April of this year.

Founded in 2017, Gen.G operates teams across a number of titles including Overwatch, League of Legends, and VALORANT. The organisation has one of the most prominent League of Legends teams, which has won three League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) titles in a row and is currently competing in this year’s World Championship as one of the tournament favourites.

Elenore Li, Esports Centre Coordinator for the University of Warwick, said: “We’re excited to partner with the top esports organisation, Gen.G, to delve into broader global educational opportunities.

“This collaboration will enable Warwick students to engage in meaningful discussions with the top-tier esports company, while simultaneously providing Asian students with valuable insights into the UK’s esports and game industry.”

Ge.G recently released a song, titled ‘Rock the Cup’, by South Korean rapper BIG Naughty as part of a collaboration with apparel brand The Hundreds for the team’s 2023 World Championship jersey.
