The British Esports Federation has partnered with connectivity provider RUCKUS Networks to support its National Esports Performance Campus in Sunderland, UK.

As the facility’s Preferred Networking Provider, RUCKUS will install connectivity technology across the campus.

The partnership with RUCKUS Networks comes after British Esports received part of £5.7m in funding in September last year. Granted through the UK government’s Open Networks Ecosystem Competition, the funding is meant to bolster 4G and 5G connectivity at the Stadium of Light football ground and the National Esports Performance Campus.

According to a release, RUCKUS Networks will help meet the high performance and security requirements of the campus’ esports networks.

Initially announced in 2022, The National Esports Performance Campus is the home of British Esports. The facility features classrooms, offices and esports performance rooms across its 45,000 sq ft premises in Sunderland.

The campus has received upgrades in the past to better develop the next generation of UK esports talent. In March 2023, British Esports shared its expansion plans for the premises, including a content creation hub and self-contained accommodation.

RUCKUS Networks is an American connectivity provider founded in 2004. The company is also part of CommScope’s portfolio of brands, which delivers hardware and software for RUCKUS’s networks.

The British Esports Federation was established in 2016 as the national non-profit esports body of the UK. Its main goal is to develop and promote future UK esports talent across the country and globally. British Esports also devises esports curriculums that have various educational qualifications.

For example, the federation developed the Higher Nationals in Esports with educational services company Pearson. This range of esports qualifications is equivalent to the first and second years of a University undergraduate degree, aiming to improve the employability of esports students.

Gary Tibbett, Head of Partnerships at British Esports, commented on the partnership with RUCKUS: “As a world class venue for esports, education and business innovation, it’s befitting we partner with leading providers in technology. We’re pleased to announce RUCKUS Networks as our Preferred Networking Provider, ensuring we’re able to deliver seamless, uninterrupted connectivity throughout our campus.”
