Big Picture Interactive, the organiser of the 2024 edition of the World Cyber Games Festival, has announced that the event will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia.
World Cyber Games 2024 will be held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition in Jakarta between August 31st-September 2nd and will feature an expanded programme, which includes influencer activations, game launch announcements and other offline activities.
The WCG is one of the oldest esports and gaming events in the world, first created in 2000. Since its launch, the event has undergone several notable changes and is no longer focused on esports alone. The 2024 edition of the event, called the World Cyber Games Festival, was announced earlier this year by its organisers, Big Picture Interactive.
The Festival will focus much more on casual gamers and influencers, and will include two large esports tournaments focused on creators and influencers. The first one, called WCG Challenge, will start on March 21st in South Korea, and will be followed by events in several other markets such as Vietnam, United States, Indonesia, Singapore and others. The $100,000 (~£78,200) prize pool tournament will see influencers represent their respective countries.
The second esports tournament, called WCG Rivals, will gather the best-performing influencers from the WCG Challenge in a new tournament with a slightly increased, $120,000 (~£93,800) prize pool.
The WCG Festival will serve as an anchor point for all of WCG’s efforts during the year.
There is still no information about the games played during the Rivals and Challenges, but WCG featured Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and VALORANT in Rivals events in the past. The festival is sponsored by video game developer Smilegate, according to a release.
