Esports football game GOALS has announced a Women’s Community Cup that will take place this month.

Kicking off August 9th, the event offers players the chance to compete for its $2,500 (~£1,900) prize pool.

The tournament, which will be 1v1, sees competitors face off to be crowned the inaugural GOALS Women’s Community Cup Champion. According to a release, the event aligns with GOALS’ ambition to ‘empower women in esports, foster a diverse array of talent and ensure that efootball can nurture the opportunity for women to go pro.’

Announced in 2021, GOALS is currently in pre-alpha development with its play-test phase announced in July 2024. The game describes itself as an ‘esports-ready’ title and has secured nearly $40m (~£31.2m) in funding to date. Additionally, GOALS was founded by Andreas Thorstensson, the co-founder of European esports organisation SK Gaming.

An exact date on when the title will be officially released has not been disclosed, however, details have revealed that the game will feature 1v1 and 5v5 game modes. Last year, the company strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Ebba Ljungerud (Paradox Interactive) and Oskar Gabrielson (EA DICE) to its board.

Alongside committing to running at least two women’s community tournaments a year, GOALS noted that it will curate women’s only playtesting as well as a women’s Discord server. Players can sign up to enter the cup through tournament platform Battlefy.

The past couple of years have been an interesting period for football titles, particularly regarding esports ecosystems. With a fresh coat of paint, EA FC recently concluded its inaugural esports season. Moreover, FIFAe has moved away from the sports simulation title to launch tournaments in Rocket League and Football Manager

We’ve created a ranking system to help you quickly know how good each gambling platform is. As gamblers ourselves, we know which factors matter most to you, so we follow a best-in-class methodology to test each one with no stone unturned. Once done, we then rank each platform based on the following tiers:
  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
  • S-Tier Reserved for elite operators only. These go well beyond the norm with lucrative bonuses, rewarding promotions, lightning-fast payouts, and a flawless experience overall.
