The Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) has announced its Year 4 Championship will take place in Sapporo, Japan.
The season-ending event for EA’s battle royale title marks the first time the competitive Apex Legends circuit has held a LAN event in Asia.
The ALGS Year 4 Championship takes place from January 29th to February 2nd 2025 at the Daiwa House PREMIST DOME, a 42,000-seat stadium located on the outskirts of central Sapporo. The five-day event sees teams compete for a chance to become the ALGS champion in addition to a share of a $2m (~£1.52m) prize pool.
The debut of the ALGS in Asia was announced during the Split 2 Playoffs which took place in Mannheim, Germany. According to Esports Charts, the tournament saw peak viewing figures of 371,239 making it the 13th-most-watched Apex Legends event in the history of the esport.
Apex Legends remains one of the most popular battle royale titles in esports. The first split of the 2024 season headed to Los Angeles and Apex Legends featured at the Esports World Cup, a multi-title event organised by the Esports World Cup Foundation.
The battle royale title has also attracted interest from non-endemic brands looking to host gaming and esports activations. In May 2024, telecommunications company Nokia hosted a charity event to showcase its Wi-Fi Beacon 10 product.
John Nelson, Senior Director of Esports at EA Entertainment, spoke on the ALGS heading to Japan: “Apex Legends is an internationally renowned franchise, and it’s incredibly rewarding when we get to show up in the hometowns of our players and fans around the world.
“The ALGS has a massive community in Japan, and we’ve seen all of the comments asking us to bring the program to the country, which is why we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate the marquee event on our competitive calendar at the iconic Daiwa House PREMIST DOME.”
