Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek confirmed the creation of a Marvel Rivals esports organisation during his charity stream on February 9th.

The retired Counter-Strike player and FPS streamer has been a fan of the Marvel-themed hero shooter since its release in December 2024. He previously expressed interest in leading a competitive Marvel Rivals venture and it looks like he has come through on his plans.

With over 10 years of experience in esports and gaming, Shroud is a significant voice in the competitive community. Having frequently featured Marvel Rivals in his broadcasts, the Canadian streamer also participated in a Marvel Rivals Creator Cup organised by fellow content creator Disguised Toast.

Prior to Shroud’s charity stream last weekend, the esports veteran discussed the possibility of a Marvel Rivals team in collaboration with North American esports organisation Sentinels. Afterwards, Sentinels CEO Rob Moore confirmed that there had been a meeting with Shroud, adding that he was interested in forming a Marvel Rivals team led by the former CS player.

The two entities had worked together in the past when Shroud joined Sentinels’ VALORANT roster for a short time.

During his charity stream, Shroud then promised to launch an esports organisation with the completion of a $150,000 donation goal. On the broadcast’s final day, the goal was reached following a $21,500 donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in exchange for the signed original jersey Shroud wore during the start of his career with CS team Cloud9.

“To any esports team that has reached out to us in the past week […] It is happening. Send emails, send messages, whatever you got. We will respond. Let’s try to make this thing happen. Let’s start up a Marvel Rivals team,” said Shroud on his stream.

However, he highlighted that he had not yet chosen a name or structure for the new organisation.

Marvel Rivals’ Emerging Esports Scene

Shroud’s announcement comes ahead of the first major tournament within the fresh Marvel Rivals competitive ecosystem. The Marvel Rivals Championship Season 1, titled Eternal Night Falls, is set to take place from March 8th to April 6th. This event was announced back in January by developer NetEase.

The circuit will feature four regions – China, North America, Europe and Asia – as well as a $14,500 (~£11,600) prize pool. Designed to allow emerging players a path to professional competition, interested individuals can sign up through the game client’s esports section until March 8th.

As its esports scene grows, additional tournaments might be organised. Moreover, other business owners and esports organisations could soon follow Shroud’s example and sign Marvel Rivals rosters.
