The latest Overwatch 2 creator event, pitting ‘one gorilla vs 100 soldiers‘, is set to commence today (May 6th) at 12pm PT (8pm BST).

The hero shooter is bringing the trending meme to life as it sets out to answer the internet’s most burning question: who would win?

The livestream, available on YouTube and Twitch, will pit 100 Soldier 76’s against a single Winston. According to the official announcement, some ‘surprise content creators’ are set to make an appearance.

In the announcement, it said: “One Gorilla, 100 Soldiers: Who Wins? Join us along with some surprise content creators for an epic showdown between 1 Winston vs. 100 Soldier: 76.”

Over on X, the Overwatch 2 account posted an online poll asking the community who they thought would win. As of writing this article, 57.1% favoured the single Winston, and 42.9% chose the 100 Soldier 76’s.

The meme has been making the rounds online after Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson made a post on X posing the same question in jest. Though in reality, it’s a question that dates much further than that, tracing all the way back to a 2020 post on Reddit posing the scenario.

The question itself is hard to answer, particularly in Overwatch’s ecosystem. Soldier 76 has been a dominant pick in Stadium as of late, and if he has access to abilities like Biotic field, or perks like Frontliners, it could shift the battle in their favour.

Alternatively, it would also depend on how much Overwatch 2’s team buffs Winston for this scenario. If he is in Primal Rage at all times and his health is further boosted in-game, Winston could very well bring home the win.

It’s a little late for April Fools, and no, this isn’t a joke by Blizzard, as a countdown has already begun on YouTube to the eventual broadcast. Fans will have to wait and see how this showdown will end later today, which will prove to be one of the more unique competitions hosted in the Overwatch esports ecosystem.
