Peter ‘dupreeh’ Rasmussen has announced his retirement from Counter-Strike esports after a historic 13-year playing career.
Dupreeh announced the news while on hosting duties at the BLAST.tv Austin Major at the Moody Center.
Ahead of the Grand Final between Team Vitality and The MongolZ, A tearful Dupreeh announced he would no longer compete in Counter-Strike, revealing he wants to spend more time at home with his two children.
Dupreeh departs the Counter-Strike scene as the only player in history to win five Major titles. During his career, the Dane has represented several organisations, including Dignitas, TSM, Astralis, Team Vitality, and most recently, Team Falcons.
In addition to five Major victories, Dupreeh has accumulated $2.2m (~£1.6m) in total winnings throughout his 13 years competing at the highest level.
“I’ve never been so nervous in my entire life,” said Dupreeh while on-stage. “Obviously, all good things come to an end. It’s time to say goodbye.
“When I first got to play Counter-Strike, I never imagined that we could gather so many people. At the time, my only goal was to make a name for myself, and I wanted to go there, and if I could just win one Major, that would be the goal for me, and that would be an achievement in itself.
“Today, I stand with five titles, and I think that the only rightful way to do and say that this is the end of my career as a professional player is to do it on the biggest stage and to do it in front of all of you.”
What’s Next For Dupreeh?
With Dupreeh’s playing career coming to an end and him wanting to spend time with family, there’s a chance that the Dane could walk away from Counter-Strike altogether.
However, his recent appearances as an analyst across three BLAST events this year, including the Austin Major, have demonstrated his ability to share his Counter-Strike insight and knowledge. As a result, Dupreeh’s next stage of his career may be on Counter-Strike broadcasts.
