TL;DR

  • Deadpool is – at the time of writing – the latest hero to be introduced to Marvel Rivals.
  • In Marvel Rivals, Deadpool’s release date coincided with the beginning of Season 6, called Night At The Museum.
  • Deadpool is the first hero who has a Vanguard, Strategist and Duelist option.
  • Because of his hybrid nature in Marvel Rivals, Deadpool’s gameplay can differ significantly from player to player.
  • As well as switching between roles, Deadpool can also swap between Dual Desert Eagles and Dual Katanas.

Deadpool is the latest Marvel hero to make their debut as a playable character in Marvel Rivals. The infamous anti-hero has kicked off Season 6 of the game, and his introduction signals a complete change in categorising heroes into particular roles.

In Marvel Rivals, Deadpool is available to play as a Vanguard, a Duelist, or a Strategist, making him the first hybrid hero in the game. Each role is a little different, though the fundamentals of his kit are similar. It can be a little intimidating when looking at Deadpool’s skill kit for the first time, but once you get the hang of one of his roles, you can quite easily flit between him in any of his positions.

We’re going to be diving into each of Deadpool’s three skill kits in Marvel Rivals, so you get a clearer picture of how his roles differ, but also how they are similar and what you can expect when you choose one to play as Deadpool in any of his three roles.

In Marvel Rivals, Deadpool becomes embroiled in the Timestream Entanglement (the narrative basis of the game) when he is hired by The Collector to hunt rare “specimens”. He is sent to do this so that these specimens can be obtained by The Collector before the Timestream Entanglement destroys their realities. Deadpool soon realises that The Collector is trying to get him to hunt down people, as he is given the task of “collecting” Gambit and Rogue. Deadpool teams up with the couple and helps them escape from the Collector’s control.

Marvel Rivals Deadpool’s skill kit, explained

Deadpool is highlighted on a character selection screen in Marvel Rivals practice range mode. The screen displays his name, "DEADPOOL," his difficulty rating, and the current game time of "03:19." To the right, a list of other available characters is visible, along with a "CONFIRM" button

As mentioned, Deadpool can be either a Vanguard, Duelist or Strategist. Each of these roles has unique abilities, while his other skills have tweaks that reflect the specific role, such as his Bunny Bounce skill becoming a Healing Hop when he is Strategist, allowing him to jump away from enemies while giving him and his team a healing boost if they are close.

Across all three roles, Deadpool maintains his weapon swapping mechanic that allows him to switch between Dual Desert Eagles and Dual Katanas. In general, his kits revolve around taunting enemies, switching between ranged and melee damage, mobility, and late-game scaling with his upgrade system.

As a Vanguard, Deadpool becomes more focused on disrupting enemies, shielding allies and surviving heavy blows. He switches to a more aggressive hero in his Duelist role, increasing his taunts and agility. When played as a Strategist, Deadpool heals, but he also offers more sustainability for his teammates.
