Blizzard has surprised mobile gamers with the announcement of Overwatch Rush for iOS and Android devices.

Set in the Overwatch universe, the new game will be a top-down hero shooter title and is currently in the early stages of development.

Notably, Overwatch Rush is not a port of Overwatch, but an entirely new game built ‘specifically for mobile gamers’.

Moreover, the title is being developed by a dedicated team at Blizzard, separate from Team 4, which oversees development of Overwatch.

“Team 4 remains fully focused on Overwatch, which will continue to bring exciting and fresh new experiences for PC and console players in its recently launched Season 1 and beyond!” Blizzard explained.

Although a lot of details regarding Overwatch Rush are still under wraps, Blizzard shared a three-and-a-half minute early development gameplay video on YouTube. Some of the heroes featured in the preview included Soldier: 76, Reinhard, Mercy, Reaper, and Tracer.

In addition to this, it is interesting to note that the game was revealed just a day after Rainbow Six Mobile rolled out globally on February 23rd.

When Will Overwatch Rush Release?

While the launch window for the game was not unveiled, Blizzard confirmed that it is preparing to begin its testing phase in select countries and regions.

“While there remains a lot of work to do, we’re eager to see how players enjoy what we’ve built so far, and to hear from them on what we should focus on in the coming phases of development,” the publisher stated.

Fans can join Overwatch Rush’s official Discord server to stay updated with all the development updates.

The announcement of Overwatch Rush showcases Blizzard’s commitment to expanding the Overwatch franchise, which includes its esports ecosystem.

“Our mission is to continue to expand the Overwatch universe by bringing fresh new adventures to players across all platforms,” Blizzard added.

The publisher recently rebranded Overwatch 2 back to Overwatch. Moreover, ahead of a major Season 1 update, the game hit its highest player count on Steam since its launch in 2023.
