TL;DR

  • Ultron is a villainous robot character who has appeared in the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • As the only flying Strategist (currently), Ultron is the blueprint for the idea of flying supports.
  • Ultron was released on May 30 as part of the season 2.5 update, which also included new team-ups and hero tweaks.
  • Ultron’s combination of damaging beams and healing drones makes him a more complex Strategist than some of the other support heroes in Marvel Rivals.

Ultron is the latest hero to join the fight in Marvel Rivals, and he brings all-new abilities for players to get to grips with. Ultron is a Strategist, so his primary role within a team is to provide support to the other players. However, Ultron is a unique take on the Strategist role, so much so that he seems to be more of a Duelist/Strategist hybrid.

Let’s take a closer look at Ultron’s abilities in Marvel Rivals to see how he fits into the game and how players can use him.

Ultron is a villainous robot character from the Marvel franchise who has appeared in the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, he was created by Hank Pym, but in the MCU he was created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner by using the Mind Infinity Stone.

In Marvel Rivals lore, Ultron acts as the main antagonist during the events of the Hellfire Gala on Krakoa in season two. He is defeated by Emma Frost and the other heroes in attendance. However, it is suggested that Tony Stark reprograms Ultron, leading to him becoming an ally and a playable character in the game.

As the first and currently the only flying Strategist, Ultron is the blueprint for the idea of flying supports. Depending on how well he is received and how much players enjoy using him, it could make a difference as to whether we will see more flying supports in the future.

How to use Ultron in Marvel Rivals

Ultron’s combination of damaging beams and healing drones makes him a more complex Strategist than some of the other support heroes in Marvel Rivals. Not only that, but he is also a flying hero, adding another layer of complexity.

To play Ultron effectively, he needs to be used as the hybrid that he is. Players should not focus purely on the healing and supportive element of his character, as his healing simply is not strong enough. Instead, a combination of healing and his primary laser fire (the Encephalo-Ray) is the best bet to use Ultron as effectively as possible.

The general playstyle of Ultron is going to be different from any of the other support characters due to his flying mechanics, which need to be taken into account. Ultron’s flight not only gives him additional manoeuvrability, but it also offers an opportunity to escape in potentially fatal situations. He can also gain the high ground against enemies very quickly, allowing him to go all in on the offensive or use his support skills to protect his teammates.

The infinite range of Ultron’s Encephalo-Ray, along with its lack of damage fall off, allows him to wear down his enemies from a distance. He can stay in the backline and deploy his drones for healing while maintaining pressure on the enemy. Combining his supportive skills with his damaging, long-range primary fire is optimal for playing Ultron effectively in Marvel Rivals.

Ultron will definitely change things up in Marvel Rivals, as he is so different from the Strategists that came before him. His hybrid Duelist/Strategist design is sure to lead to many players using him purely as an offensive hero, but those who can balance his supportive and offensive skills are the players who will get the most out of Ultron.
