What is VCT Masters Toronto?

The VALORANT Champions Tour, or VCT, is the premier esports circuit for VALORANT, organised by Riot Games. They run several events worldwide across their four International Leagues: Americas, China, EMEA, and Pacific, as well as international events in Masters and Champions.

VCT Masters Toronto is the second international LAN of the 2025 season after VCT Masters Bangkok, and will be played between June 7 and June 22. It’ll bring together the 12 best teams from the four International Leagues to compete for VCT points, prize money, and global bragging rights.

VCT Masters Toronto: Format explainer

The tournament begins with the Swiss Stage, running from June 7 to 11. This phase features eight teams, made up of the 2nd and 3rd place finishers from each international league – Americas, China, EMEA, and Pacific.

It follows a standard Swiss System, here’s how it works:

  • Teams play against others with the same win-loss record for a maximum of three rounds.
  • In the opening round, every 2nd place team is matched against a 3rd place team from another region.
  • All matches are best-of-three (Bo3), leaving no room for error.

At the end of the Swiss Stage, the top four teams advance to the Playoffs, while the bottom four are eliminated and sent home.

After a short break, the Playoffs begin on June 13. This stage brings together the top four teams from the Swiss Stage and the four winners of each international league. These eight teams face off in a double-elimination bracket, meaning teams have to lose twice before they’re out.

While most playoff matches are best-of-three, the stakes are raised in the final rounds. The Lower Bracket Final and Grand Final are best-of-five (Bo5) battles to claim the crown on June 22.

VCT Masters Toronto: Prize pool distribution

For VCT Masters Toronto, a $1 million prize pool is on the table, split among all competing teams. There are also VCT Points up for grabs, which are a deciding factor in who will be jetting off to compete at Champions in Paris.

With each VCT region sending three representative squads, there are a total of 12 teams competing.

Here are all the qualifying squads and their confirmed player rosters by in-game ID, taken from Liquipedia, divided according to their region.

VCT Americas

  • G2 Esports (#1): JonahP, trent, valyn, leaf, jawgemo
  • Sentinels (#2): zekken, johnqt, Zellsis, bang, N4RRATE
  • MIBR (#3): artziN, xenon, cortezia, aspas, Verno

G2 Esports are one of the best success stories in VALORANT esports, going from an Ascension team in 2023 to the #1 seed in VCT Americas for Stage 1. They’ll face stiff competition from their rivals, Sentinels, the two-time VCT Masters champions and VCT Americas Stage 1 runners-up. Brazilian team MIBR has broken through as the third-place team repping VCT Americas, with Masters Toronto being their first international performance since VCT 2023 LOCK//IN Sao Paulo.

VCT China

  • XLG Esports (#1): Rarga, happywei, coconut, Viva, TBD
  • Bilibili Gaming (#2): whyz, Knight, Levius, nephh, rushia
  • Wolves Esports (#3): Spring, Yuicaw, SiuFatBB, Lysoar, juicy

XLG achieved an unexpected Stage 1 victory at VCT China, dropping only a single match throughout the tournament against Bilibili Gaming. BLG are a surprise entry, as the Chinese roster has finally qualified for a VALORANT Masters for the first time in their tenure. Last but certainly not least, Wolves Esports are a potential underdog that will make their international debut at Masters Toronto after finishing Stage 1 in third place.

VCT EMEA

  • Fnatic (#1): Boaster, Alfajer, Chronicle, kayak, crashies
  • Team Heretics (#2): Boo, benjyfishy, MiniBoo, RieNs, Wo0t
  • Team Liquid (#3): nAts, keiko, kamo, paTiTek, Serial

Fnatic are the reigning VCT 2025: EMEA champion after defeating Team Heretics in a dominant 3-0 Grand Final. They’re looking to secure their second Masters title and third international trophy to add to their growing cabinet. As the runner-up and third-placed teams, Team Heretics and Team Liquid are also representing EMEA at VCT Masters Toronto.

VCT Pacific

  • Rex Regum Qeon (#1): xffero, Jemkin, monyet, Kushy, crazyguy
  • Gen.G Esports (#2): t3xture, Karon, Munchkin, Ash, Foxy9
  • Paper Rex (#3): d4v41, f0rsakeN, something, King, PatMen

VCT Pacific was arguably the most competitive region during Stage 1. Rex Regum Qeon stormed their way to victory in VCT Pacific: Stage 1 with a dominant performance throughout. VCT Masters Shanghai 2024 champions, Gen.G Esports, are showing a return to form as they secured their slot in VCT Masters Toronto. They’re joined by VCT Pacific mainstay Paper Rex to complete the region’s line-up.

Our expectations

With 12 elite teams, a $1m prize pot, and only one trophy, the stage is set for a defining moment in the 2025 VCT season. Will favourites like Fnatic or G2 Esports live up to expectations? Or can an underdog like Wolves Esports or a dark horse like Team Liquid shake things up? Either way, we’re expecting fireworks and unpredictable upsets straight from the first round to the final bullet!
