We take a look at some of the top esports business stories in the Southeast Asian region that broke during the last month. 

These are the big stories for the month of August, in collaboration with AFK Gaming.

EVOS Esports announces partnership with Visa

Southeast Asian esports organisation EVOS Esports announced a strategic collaboration with Visa, which will now serve as its preferred payment solution. The organisation will enable payments via Visa for in-game purchases and merchandise. Future plans for activations will be revealed at a later date.

Singapore sets up esports and gaming trade body

The Singapore Games Association, otherwise known as SGGA, has been set up to monitor and develop gaming in the country. The trade body will look to foster the growth of a sustainable esports ecosystem as well as supporting local game developers and publishers.

Among other plans, SGGA plans to set up the country’s first accreditation scheme for the gaming industry and organise workshops and seminars to bring more structure to the ecosystem. The full article can be found here. 

Mineski Philippines renews agreement with Globe Telecom

Mineski Philippines renewed its partnership with telecommunications company Globe Telecom. The two will focus on the Philippines Pro Gaming League, otherwise referred to as PPGL, and developing an organisation called Liyab Esports.

Mineski also announced a rebrand with Mineski Global being the parent entity and Mineski Philippines, Mineski Indonesia, and Mineski Thailand working on specific regional activities.

Indonesia recognises esports as an official sport

Indonesia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) officially recognised esports as an accomplished sport in the country and named PB Esports Indonesia as the only institution that covers esports as an achievement sport in Indonesia under KONI.

PB Esports has 21 partner esports organisations and backing from game developers such as Moonton, Tencent Games, Garena, and Lyto. 

Filippino companies set up esports federation called PeSO

Some of the big names working in the esports space in the Philippines have announced a strategic partnership and are set to work together under an existing esports federation called the Philippines Esports Organization (PeSO).

The stakeholders include Mineski Philippines, Bren Esports, Gariath Concepts, PlayBook Esports, Tier One Entertainment, TNC Philippine Holdings, The Nationals, Smart Communications and TV5. PeSO is also seeking accreditation from the Philippines Olympic Committee to be named the official organising body in the country.
