Scandanavian esports organisation Heroic has announced a partnership with blockchain and cryptocurrency platform Polkadot.
As a result of the deal, the platform will become Heroic’s official blockchain sponsor.
As Heroic’s blockchain partner, Polkadot’s branding will feature on the organisation’s jerseys and its digital platforms. According to a release, the partnership between the two parties will ‘bring a fresh wave of excitement to the esports community’ through activations, community-focused events and prize giveaways.
Founded in 2020, Polkadot’s platform looks to enable users and other blockchains to perform transactions without a third party, resulting in cross-chain transfers and the ability to create decentralised applications on its network. The platform will also collaborate with Heroic on marketing and business development. Notable partners on the platform include football icon Lionel Messi and racing driver Conor Daly.
The trend of blockchain companies partnering with esports organisations continues to offer new opportunities. In November 2023, North American organisation Team Liquid partnered with game developer Illuvium to promote its blockchain auto battler game.
For Heroic, Polkadot becomes the fourth partner of Heroic and is the third deal secured by the organisation in 2024. In March, the organisation unveiled a multi-year deal with Thunderpick and in April, it partnered with sportswear brand Joma.
Oliver Valsfaard, CEO of Heroic, spoke on the deal: “We are incredibly excited to partner with Polkadot, a leader in blockchain innovation.
“This partnership represents a significant step forward in uniting communities and bringing awareness on the potential of blockchain technology within the gaming and esports ecosystem. On a personal level, I am especially excited to continue working with the Polkadot community, which from day 1 has been enthusiastic, engaged and forward-thinking.”
